With the scorching heat of summer there seems to be dry shrub everywhere in Wildwood. This day as I walked a wide path, to the left I heard rustling in the tall dry grass as I walked to the right, more rustling. Well, I told myself, it could be a bird, a lizard, probably not a bunny but most likely during this time of year, a snake. Perhaps a rattler maybe even an innocent garden snake but whoever was in the grass put me on edge. The only comfortable position for me to walk was in the middle of the path.

In Buddhism the middle way teaches us to be
in the world but not of the world.
There is neither going forward, nor going backward,
nor standing still.

Ajahn Chah, a Tibetan Buddhist Monk says “to discover the middle way,
try to be mindful, and let things take their natural course.
Then your mind will become still in any surroundings, like a clear forest pool. “

Sometimes the middle way can be a place for one to rest. A place to rest the mind, rest the body even rest the emotions. Not getting tangled up in life’s drama but instead to pause, to be mindful, letting life unfold before you without any pushing or pulling so that clarity can seep through all the muddled noises of life.

Yes, this day I took the middle way, allowing all to be as it was to my left and to my right and walking in the middle, I found balance, calmness, and ease.
