The MWA Report
Spring 2020

Dear Clients and Friends,

I hope you and your loved ones are well, staying healthy and finding new ways to keep active in these different times. While the markets have been volatile, it is important to remember that this brings opportunities, such as tax-loss harvesting, converting from traditional to Roth IRAs and dollar cost averaging into IRA, 401(k) and variable life insurance policies.

While we have been very busy keeping up on the latest legislative developments impacting your finances, we’ve also found special time to bond with our families at home. I share a few of our stories in the What’s Happening with Our Team section of this report.

Stay well and be safe out there.

Sincerely,

Bill
Economic Commentary
U.S. stocks closed out their worst quarter since the depths of the financial crisis. Just months ago, money managers were optimistic the bull market would continue. The U.S. and China had appeared to make progress on a trade agreement, and central banks around the world looked poised to keep interest rates steady for the foreseeable future.
Bill's Brief
On March 27th, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, was signed into law in response to COVID-19. The $2 trillion dollar stimulus package includes a wide range of provisions to help ease the effects of the resulting economic damage caused by the global pandemic. Below is a summary of key provisions. For the full legislative text, please visit congress.gov.
What's Happening With Our Team?
"When my daughter returned to college after a 10-day break in early March, I could not have imagined that she would be back home again so soon. This time would be for the rest of her junior year. The
spread of the coronavirus has changed life as we know it. My children have adapted to online learning, and zoom meetings with friends, and my wife has experimented with many new recipes to keep us
well-nourished. Though social distancing is hard, I’ve found time to take bike rides/jogs with my kids, long walks with my wife and learn new music on the piano. Having my daughter home for her 21 st birthday was a blessing too."

- Bill Miller , Managing Partner
" This past month has been like no other in my family’s life, as I’m sure is the case for many of you. Life as my children knew it came to a screeching halt on March 13, 2020, which was the last day they attended school on campus. Since then they have both learned how to use technology like Zoom and Google to learn from home. At the same time, my son’s football season ended abruptly. My daughter has learned how to attend her dance classes virtually using Zoom. As many of you know, my husband is a firefighter/paramedic, so he is on the front line in this battle against COVID 19. In the midst of all of this change and disappointment, we still have so much to be grateful for. We found out on April 3 rd  that my daughter was accepted into Bak Middle School of the Arts for dance. On April 11 th , we celebrated my son’s 14 th  birthday with a car parade of family and friends that drove by with posters and balloons, making him feel very loved. Then on Sunday, April 12 th  my family celebrated Easter by watching our church service online, having a small egg hunt for the kids in our backyard (which was a first for them…usually it is a huge family affair) and enjoying a quiet dinner. Above all, I am beyond grateful that my family has remained healthy and safe throughout this past month because, at the end of the day, without our health nothing else matters.  "
