Operation Thank You / Hand Sanitizer
Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber’s annual “Operation Thank You” for chamber members had a different twist this year due to direct health measures. The Chamber of Commerce held two drive by distributions of gallon containers of hand sanitizer to chamber members this summer. Gering High School allowed the chamber to host pickup drive by in their teachers’ parking lot.

Nebraska’s fuel ethanol producers and the companies who supply and support the ethanol industry donated ingredients. Product was made at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Food Processing Center on the Nebraska Innovation Camps with guidance and direction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering.

If your business is in need of hand sanitizer, Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber has some gallons left. You can pick them up at the chamber office located at 1517 Broadway, Suite 104 in Scottsbluff. Many thanks to the Nebraska fuel ethanol producers and the University of Nebraska for assisting area businesses in reopening.
Welcome New Chamber Members

Help community colleges develop coursework to meet workforce needs - only takes 5-10 minutes
In response to unemployment and employee dislocation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor has launched a new Nebraska Workforce Retraining Initiative, funded by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.  Under this initiative, individuals who are unemployed or underemployed due to COVID-19 can receive a scholarship to a Nebraska community college, where they will learn new and improved skills to find a rewarding, high-demand career.

We need YOUR help to ensure that the training programs offered by the community colleges align with local workforce needs and provide the skills that our Nebraska businesses will need to grow in a post-pandemic economy. This is an important step in aligning these programs with business needs. So please take a few minutes to complete this survey to assist the community colleges in developing appropriate coursework. Please complete the survey by August 20.

Nebraska community colleges have identified eligible workforce training programs and are already accepting scholarship applications to cover the cost of training.

A summary of the program is included below, and more information can be obtained at www.getnebraskagrowing.nebraska.gov or by contacting the community college in your area (see contact information at the end of the survey).

Going into the crisis, the number one issue constraining Nebraska business growth was a shortage of skilled workers. This program provides our workforce a unique opportunity to pursue education and build skills. Let’s support our educational community by giving them information to meet our workforce needs for the next decade by taking the survey. Thank you for helping to shape this critical component of Nebraska’s recovery process.
