Dear Trinity Members and Friends:
It is with sadness that I announce the resignation of Jackson Merrill as our Organist and Director of Music Ministries. His last Sunday with us will be July 26, 2020. While it is sad for us, Jack will be pursuing a life goal of further musical education through a Master's Degree program in organ performance and literature at the University of Michigan, beginning in the fall.
Jack's superb leadership of the adult choir and of the Choir School of Hartford will be sorely missed, as will be his warmth, humor, liturgical expertise and enthusiasm. In his three years at Trinity, he has taken his place in a long line of inspired musicians serving this parish. He will leave a strong program, sure to attract candidates in the forefront of church musical leadership.
Choir member Linda MacGougan will lead a search committee to find Trinity's next church musician. She has twice before led such a search. She will be helped by a committee soon to be appointed by the Vestry.
In his letter to the choirs, sent in an email this morning, Jack wrote, "We have had a remarkable three years together. While I am excited for my opportunity at Michigan, I have never found it harder to write a note like this in my career, and I suspect that I will feel gloomier as July 26th approaches. Though I will leave Trinity, I will carry each of you in my heart and treasure our memories together for the rest of my life."
We will be blessed to have Jack with us for the next three months. In the meantime, efforts will begin right away to ensure the future of Trinity's remarkable ministry of music.
Yours in Christ,
The Rev. Norman MacLeod
Interim Priest-in-Charge
