KENT SCHOOL NEWS
On September 13, President Neeli Bendapudi and Dean David Jenkins honored community partners, alumni, and donors of the Kent School of Social Work during their first Champions for Change breakfast. During the breakfast, Dean Jenkins provided a State of Kent Address before recognizing student scholarship recipients and the donors and supporters of Kent School. Read more.
Beginning in Spring 2020, the Kent School will offer a new degree program: The Master of Science in Couple and Family Therapy (MSCFT). The program is the first master of couple and family therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) to be housed in a school of social work.   Read more .

Love Notes, is an evidence based, relationship based, national program with youth curriculum aimed at youth ages 14-24 that addresses healthy romantic relationships and communication skills; including, how to seek and give consent, information to help prevent risky sexual behavior, pregnancy, dating violence, sexual coercion, human trafficking, and suicide. Read more .

Talk about a perfect fit. A new Kent practicum site has turned into a win for all. Judith Heitzman, a part-time faculty member, started things out by volunteering with and then making the Kent connection with Mission Behind Bars and Beyond (MB3), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people trying to re-adapt to life after incarceration. RESEARCH
In September 2019, our research team was contacted by the IES Project Officer of our current Preschool First Step Next (FSN) study requesting we submit a proposal to better understand the long-term impacts of the intervention.   The purpose of the supplement is to examine long-term effects on behavioral and academic outcomes as well as investigate contextual factors (e.g., special education status) impacting outcomes.   Read more .

More than 50 representatives from 13 key community partners this month have begun training in the Trauma Resilient Community (TRC) Model as part of a $5 million, 5-year federal grant to launch an emerging project to promote resilience and equity for Louisville families and young people most affected by trauma, inequity, and violence in west and south Louisville. Dr. Bibhuti Sar has been awarded a discretionary grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to continue to
provide services to survivors of torture in partnership with Family Health Centers (FHC) in Louisville and Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) in Lexington, KY. 
STUDENTS IN ACTION
Doctoral Student Spotlight: Jill Randall
As an undergraduate student, Jill Randall didn’t know what career she wanted to pursue, but she knew that she wanted to help people. “Fortunately for me, there was a class at my college called, “I Want To Help People.” It was an introductory social work course, and the professor was inspiring.” Through taking this course, and the professor’s teaching, Randall discovered that social work would be a great fit for her.     Read more.
MSSW Students and ECHO
SW 643-Leadership/Management students conducted a leadership assessment interview with Sonja Grey, Executive Director of ECHO, the Exploited Children’s Help Organization. ECHO is one of the few child abuse prevention organizations in our community, located in the Bridges of Hope Neighborhood Place. Visit www.echo-ky.org for more information about the organization.
FACULTY

In 2018, Mané began teaching part time at Kent School. “I am most excited about the compassion and tolerance that Kent School teaches. As a student, I loved being part of Kent School, so when I was offered the courses to teach, I was very happy to get back to my favorite department.”  Read more.
