Under the Shadow
Isaiah 51:16- I covered you in the shadow of my hand
I am Steve Massey, or Esteban in Guatemala. My son and I will soon be moving to Guatemala. The plane is set to fly out on November 1. For the past thirty plus years I have served as pastor in a variety of locations. 12 years ago, my son Marco was born and on St. Patrick's Day, he became our son through adoption. Marco was born in Mixco, Guatemala. He loves water parks, snakes, volcanoes, and Nintendo video games, not necessarily in that order. Sonic is his latest interest.
The church in Santiago Zamora, Guatemala has been without a pastor for the past seven years, so I was called by a mission agency called Lead a Child to fill that void. With GLO's help, I will be going there.
I look forward to the adventure that God has in store for us and for the opportunity to share the goodness of our God with you as you support us in this mission
Under the Shadow
My son Marco loves volcanoes. He likes to read about them. He likes to watch videos about them. He is excited about moving to Santiago Zamora, Guatemala because there are 3 volcanoes in view: Agua, Acatenango, and Fuego (Fire).
Last year, Fire Volcano was a major news story. There was an eruption that wiped out nearby villages. The survivors were displaced. A survivor told me that his village was buried under thirty feet of ash. A puff of ash rises from it every now and again.
Living under the shadow of this volcano can cause fear. Isaiah talks of another shadow. God will protect us under the shadow of his wings. I picture the image Jesus gave us of a hen gathering her chicks under her wings. She is willing to sacrifice herself to protect her babies. God's love protects his children.  That is the protection that will go with me and Marco as we live in the shadow of the volcanoes around Santiago Zamora, Guatemala.
