Turning Adversities Into Inspiration
|
November 8, 2019
Oscar McClain, a former Louisiana GEAR UP student and Aspire to Inspire mentor, recently wrote an article for Forbes about obstacles in his life that became his motivation to achieve success.
His successes as a high school student and his involvement with Louisiana GEAR UP allowed him the chance to meet the former First Lady, Michelle Obama, at the
Beating the Odds
summit in Washington, D.C. in 2015.
Oscar recently graduated from Southern University (Baton Rouge) with a 3.7 GPA and multiple job offers.
"When hearing the words 'Beating the Odds', I always begin to reflect on the obstacles that I had to overcome to get to where I am today ... The lessons and advice from the summit still inspired me to finish what I had started and have been working on so hard to achieve. I did it!"

LC, CLTCC partner for general education courses
|
November 14, 2019
Leaders at Central Louisiana Technical Community College and Louisiana College signed a partnership, they hope will encourage more students to complete a bachelor's degree.
The agreement between the two institutions allows students to complete general education requirements at CLTCC and then continue on at LC - whether a working adult or a younger student.
The article points to national statistics of only 14% of two-year graduates completing an undergraduate degree.
"It's a win-win for the students across the state, including some families who may not be able to afford a four-year education to begin, but can afford a two-year education," said
Louisiana College President Rick Brewer.
