November 2019

We are excited to announce that Steph Wooton, our star horticulturist, will be back at Unity Church Hill Nursery on Fridays and Saturdays from November 8th  until  Thanksgiving to assist you in finding the best solution to all of your gardening needs. The nursery is stocked  with beautiful plants,  pottery,  fountains, furniture and more.  Take advantage of this cool fall weather to finish your outdoor projects before winter sets in.

The Gallery at Unity continues to expand with new works by Rob Glebe and Paul Santori just added this week. Please stop in and support your local artists Vicco von Voss, Marianne Sade and Theresa Mycek.

Here at the farm, we are continuing to harvest while also preparing for the winter and next year's growing season. We have cool weather crops ( kale, spinach, lettuce, brussels sprouts, carrots, and more) outside in the fields  and in our high tunnels we are transitioning from tomatoes, ginger and turmeric to more cool weather crops that will grow through the winter. Now is also the time to look ahead and make preparations for the winter and next growing season: we have planted cover crops and next year's garlic crop and will take soil samples and test for nutrient levels. Just like us, plants need balanced nutrition to be healthy and produce high quality food. Testing now gives us time to correct the nutrient deficiencies using natural soil amendments and minerals before the growing season begins again in the spring. You can find our high quality fresh produce at the Chestertown Farmers' Market at least up until the Saturday before Thanksgiving, right here at the Nursery and at Chestertown Natural Foods.

Our Landscape Design/Build team has a new member David Huntzberry is our staff ecologist and will focus on environmental design and sales. David graduated from Susquehanna University with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and then went on to
work with the Fish and Wildlife  Service in  Annapolis.  He joined  our team with great enthusiasm knowing he would be working alongside Lu cas Lees (Shoreline and Erosion Control Specialist), Chris Schoenster (MLA, Environmental Design and Sales) and our President Michael Jensen with over 26 years of experience in all aspects of Landscape Design, Construction, Permitting and Erosion Control. David will also be working with Theresa Mycek (Farm and Nursery Manager) with over 16 years of experience in vegetable and herb production to expand our native plant production to be offered for sale to our retail nursery customers, wholesale customers, and for utilization in the many ongoing restoration projects team Unity is designing and installing. This is an exciting time at Unity and we welcome all to come visit  us to meet the team and experience the projects in the UNITYVERSE.
