Notes of Joy - Week of June 6
This Week's Gospel: Mark 3:20-35
A house divided against itself cannot stand. Jesus makes this observation in light of charges that he is possessed. He is possessed, not by a demon, but by the Holy Spirit. We who have received the Holy Spirit through baptism have been joined to Christ’s death and resurrection and knit together in the body of Christ. Those with whom we sing and pray this day are Jesus’ family. With them we go forth in peace to do the will of God.
CLEAN-UP DAY &
ELECTRONIC RECYCLING EVENT
This Saturday, June 5th

Let’s greet our new pastor with a clean and organized building. A to-do list of needed projects for both inside and outside is posted in the Narthex and thru the below link. Not everything will get done in one day, but with many hands working together we can accomplish a lot. If it works better for your schedule, look at the list of projects and take one on when it works best for your schedule.  Let’s challenge ourselves to cross off a majority of these by July 5th, Pastor Sean’s first day. Church clean-up will be this Saturday, June 5 from 9:30am - 2:00pm.

Joy Lutheran has become known for our Electronic Recycling events. Total Reclaim is partnering with us and will be accepting electronics between 10:00am - 1:00pm on Saturday. There is a small fee depending on items to be recycled.

Thank You Letter From Karen
I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus....   1st Corinthians 1:4

Dear Friends and Members of Joy Lutheran Church,

Thank you so much for the fun and surprising “Send-Off” last Sunday after worship! I was so surprised and touched by the beautiful Quilt that was made and given to me. Not only is it beautiful, but it holds the names and messages from so many of you that will stay with me over the years ahead.  Thank you!  In addition, the donuts and many other remembrances were fun and appreciated!

Most of all, thank you for your prayers and support of not only me but your Church. You are the people of God at Joy Lutheran . You are important to each other and this community. You have been given worth and a call to mission by our Lord. Heed and enjoy that call!

The following was my Ordination scripture. It seems fitting to share as I retire.

“You shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”  Isaiah 55:12

In gratitude,
Pastor Karen Sonray
Masks for a Bit Longer
When Church Council meets on June 8th, we will discuss our Covid protocol. Until that time, please continue to wear your mask and observe social distancing. Worship service should be a place where you feel safe and included. The CDC guidelines state that fully vaccinated people do not need to wear masks in certain circumstances, however many of our children are not eligible for the vaccines or are not fully vaccinated at this time.  Please give us your input how to proceed by contacting any council member or email/call the office.
Ordination of Sean Avery
June 11th in Bellingham
at Christ the Servant Lutheran
6:30 PM

If you are in the area and would like to represent Joy Lutheran, please let Sue Weimer know. It will also be streamed live.
Front Sidewalk Replacement
The last of our 2018 Earthquake repairs are happening this week. The contractors removed the damaged concrete and hauled away the pieces in a dumptruck. The kids at JCDC were excited to watch the process from the window!

Stay-tuned for more info on the project and availability of church access through the front entrance.
Church Directories are Ready!
Thank you for getting your photos to us.  Please pick up a Church Directory at Church on Sundays or at the Church during Office Hours. One per household. Do not share the information with people outside of our fellowship or use for commercial purposes.
IN CASE OF A PASTORAL CONCERN OR EMERGENCY June 1 - July 4th
Please call any Church Council Member and they will reach a Pastor for you. Do not hesitate to call! We have three pastors willing to help us during this time before Pastor Sean arrives in case of a pastoral care concern.
Name Tags
There are new Name Tags to wear for Sunday morning. They are on the wall next to the water fountain. A big thank you to Corrine Finnie for working on this project. If your name is missing or spelled wrong, please let her know! The plan is that we start wearing them in June to be accustomed to the pattern. This will help our new Pastor get to know us when he arrives July 5th! And it is a help to all of us.
Chugiak Eagle River Food Pantry
Eris reports the Food Pantry is low on food at this time. You're welcome to bring food donations to church on Sunday.
Joy of Reading Book Club
It’s Book Club anniversary month! Friday, June 11th is the day.

Gerry has offered to let us have our meeting and celebration at her beautiful lake home. She has also said we can come out any time during that day as she will be out there. The meeting and dinner will be that evening. The book for June is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. It is not an overnight this year.

We would love to have you join us if you can make it. There will not be a Book Club meeting in July, but we will resume in August.
