Courthouse Museum
enlivens and enriches visitors’ appreciation for the role of the 1824 courthouse and the state’s rich legal history and the role of the community in the development of the law.

Frederick Douglass Museum and Cultural Center
The
Frederick Douglass Museum and Cultural Center
, housed in “Twin Oaks”, the summer cottage built in 1895 for Frederick Douglass, was purchased and restored in the early 1980’s. In 1995, the State of Maryland and Anne Arundel County acquired the property and deeded it to the Town of Highland Beach as a memorial to Frederick Douglass, one of Maryland’s most famous sons.
Museum is open by appointment only.

Franklin Point State Park
Maryland’s newest state park is 477 beautiful acres right on the Chesapeake Bay between Shady Side and Deale.
Formerly the site of Deep Creek Airport,
Franklin Point State Park
now has marsh, forest, meadow, and a sandy bay shoreline. Open sunrise to sunset. The park is open to all visitors. However, to access the boating area for a day use permit, call the office at Sandy Point, at 410-974-2149.

Downtown Annapolis Partnership recently a new website that gives you one destination to shop local for gift cards, online stores, carryout/delivery, and local musicians concerts. Use this to shop locally online at downtown Annapolis businesses.
Keep Annapolis a vibrant community by shopping local. Every time we order something from an out of area company we increase the risk of empty storefronts and having less local jobs.

What do Students Need While Learning Virtually?

An Online Dialogue:
Tuesday, April 14, 2020 from 2-3 pm
A national education conversation has gotten underway on the impact of COVID-19 on student learning and how schools and districts are responding to this crisis. In this conversation we'll hear from the students themselves.
Whereas educators from across the nation are focusing their efforts on providing an alternative learning experience to students via distance and virtual learning, there are serious concerns regarding educational equity for all students; particularly for students from special populations (e.g., low-income, special needs, English Learners, students experiencing homelessness, etc.) during this crisis.
To address these concerns, MAEC is going to the source to find out how COVID-19 is impacting students. MAEC’s own Dr. Daryl Williams, along with Mr. Sadiq Ali, Executive Director of the Maryland Mentor program, will facilitate a dialogue with students nationwide from California, New Jersey, Maine, and Maryland.

Historically, the majority of closures are brief, lasting for a few days or even weeks. Yet with no end in sight, cultural organizations are facing an entirely new, unprecedented challenge.
For many organizations who depend on income from on-site purchases like admission tickets, special exhibitions, and gift shop sales, the membership department is one of the only sources of income at the moment. In a time, however, when members cannot physically come on-site, the question becomes, how do we reinforce the value of being a member?

Ask Congress to Support the Museum Community in Phase 4 Economic Relief

Support Relief and Recovery for Museums Nationwide
Deadline: COB Wednesday, April 15
Your legislators need to hear directly from you that they must continue to include nonprofit museums in COVID-19 economic relief. They also need to hear specifically about how COVID-19 is affecting you and your museum and how your museum is helping impacted communities.
Two actions you can take in the next few days could be very important.
One. Now is the time to contact your legislators to let them know what the museum field is facing and to urge them to provide critical support for museums. Please

o ask them to sign on. Please note that the deadline to sign is COB Wednesday, April 15. You would be asking your Congressperson to sign onto Rep. Dingell and Upton’s letter to the House leadership advocating for important assistance for the museum community in any future relief package.
