Dear Christ Church Family,
As we step into June, we have also begun the countdown to Christie’s retirement. This transition is of course bittersweet: we are so excited for Christie’s move into Christ Church’s ministries, but we will miss her steadfast attention to so many aspects of running the business side of Christ Church. In fact, we have determined that it will take THREE new staff members to step into Christie’s sizeable footprint in the Christ Church office.
The Personnel Committee quickly realized that trying to find another Christie Tugend to competently accomplish such varied duties was not practical. (Really, there is not another Christie.) But by splitting apart the three jobs that Christie does singlehandedly, we can hire staff with specialized expertise and experience—and we can spread this talent across both the church and the school.

Hiring three new staff members across the whole institution also affords us the opportunity to further professionalize our school. Indeed, this move helps us to knit together the church and Christ Church Day School, which was the parish’s top priority during the rector search process.
And as soon as we dreamed it, we discovered the funding was already available! The new positions are: Director of Finance & Human Resources, Director of Communications, and Director of Facilities.

The first two positions are posted on our website. Our hiring committees are set. And applications are coming in. However, we would love to use our Christ Church and CCDS networks to invite others to apply as well. While we will not be hiring Christ Church parishioners, CCDS parents, current staff, or their families, please do push out these positions to your friends, colleagues, and neighbors!
Looking beyond our immediate system for new people and new relationships will strengthen our institution with new ideas and new ways of doing our work. Opening up to the bigger picture, forming new alliances and relationships, and exploring novel approaches to church, school, and ministry are all integral to our vitality and growth.
To this end, I ask you to be prepared to create space for and to offer support to our incoming staff members. Everything will be different. And our new colleagues will need our trust and love to succeed as part of the Christ Church team.

Simultaneously, the Christ Church community will be grieving Christie’s departure from the office. Everything will be different. And we must also make space and offer support for these emotions as well.
To celebrate Christie, her tenure at Christ Church, and the many gifts she has bestowed on each of us, the staff and I invite you to honor Christie with a card shower during the month of June!
To participate, all you need to do is send Christie a card. Cards can be simple, with a pre-printed funny or heartfelt message; or you can include a personal memory, photograph, or story; or you can even pop in a gift card for a lunch out or another retirement activity for Christie to enjoy as her time opens up for the things she loves most.

Christie’s address for the card shower is:

Change is afoot and yet all is well. The Holy Spirit is doing her thing here at Christ Church! And even as everything is different, I am confident we are in the good hands of Christ’s Advocate.

Blessings and love—
