This is one of our biggest events of the year, bringing together a diverse group of our members to network and mingle with their colleagues and industry partners. The event followed a busy day of BIA-LAV Committee Meetings and our bi-monthly BIA-LAV Board Meeting. BIA-LAV OPPOSES LA UNIFIED PARCEL TAX
On Thursday, the BIA-LAV Board of Directors and Government Affairs Committee heard from our California Building Industry Association (CBIA) lobbyist, Michael Gunning. We had a live report on the housing bills that are moving through the legislative process, and received an update on the CBIA Housing Killers and Creators list of policy measures. Additionally, we took an oppose position on the local Los Angeles Unified School District parcel tax, Measure EE. The measure would impose a $0.16 per square foot tax on all properties, has the potential to increase rents and the cost of housing, doesn't contain a sunset date or an oversight of funds, and doesn't guarantee that the money will go to improve classrooms or help students. Contact BIA-LAV Senior Director of Government Affairs,
Christine Rangel
, for more information.
