Upper School News
Hello Upper School Families -

Though we were not able to celebrate with our annual Halloween Carnival last week, I am so proud of our Upper School students' efforts to put something together before we went into orange level. It really shows such generosity of spirit, and I want to send a hearty thank you to all! As you are aware, we remain in orange level, and thus remote learning. Just as a reminder:

  • All Upper School students will be attending classes remotely.

  • All in-person after school activities are postponed. Any activities that can meet remotely can, and should, do so.

  • All students will receive an email from Mr. Tain each morning that includes the link to all classes for that day, daily announcements, and a calendar of activities. Links to all classes are also always available on Mr. Tain’s remote website: https://sites.google.com/roycemoreschool.org/usoc/home

  • The schedule will remain the same Monday-Thursday. Synchronous classes will meet at their regular times, and for the duration.

  • For the time being, Fridays will be asynchronous, with students completing assigned work. However, teachers do have the option to schedule class time on Fridays and students will be expected to attend these classes, or any requested teacher-student meetings. This may change down the road.

  • All students are expected to attend all of their classes unless they are ill or excused by a parent/guardian for another reason. Active participation in all class activities is expected, as it is when we are on-campus.

  • All students should still complete the health screener each day. This allows us to keep attendance data.

I remain hopeful that cases come down again, and we can be back on campus soon. As always, I am here to help with anything I can.

Best,
Stefanie Rivera

Reminders
Young Women of Color Symposium
The Young Women of Color Symposium is a leadership conference for 7th-12th grade, self-identified young women of color in the Chicagoland area. There are far too many spaces where women of color are not as celebrated or respected as they should be. In order to protect, support, and empower young women of color, Loyola Academy and Francis W. Parker School have partnered together to create a space for conversation, connection, and community. This symposium is one step on the path to changing the narrative and encouraging the resilience of our voices.

The symposium will take place virtually on Saturday, March 20, 2021. The day will feature workshops, affinity group sessions, and activities geared toward providing brave and necessary spaces for participants to explore and celebrate their identities, to develop skills for self-advocacy, and to form lifelong connections and community. The goal is to provide a collaborative environment and experience that promotes opportunities to learn, inspire, and empower participants.
