OVERTURNED KINGDOMS CONCLUDES SUNDAY!
Who is Jesus Christ according to the Gospel of Luke? Preferring the company of tax collectors and sinners, he passed by the respectable and the righteous. He talked to women, welcomed children and touched those considered unclean. He told stories where Samaritans and outcasts were the heroes. In the kingdom he foretold, the first would be last and the last first, and the greatest would be the servant of all. Nowhere is it more evident than in the Gospel of Luke, Jesus overturned more than money-changing tables – he overturned kingdoms.

What: Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah
Since this is a newer book, the used copies on Amazon aren't any cheaper than the new copies so there will not be copies to buy at church. The library system has 23 copies but you need to put this very popular book on hold as they move fast. Also consider the Audio version. Trevor narrates and it’s very enjoyable to listen to. Here is a short summary of what the book is about from the publisher:

Trevor Noah’s unlikely path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of  The Daily Show  began with a criminal act: his birth. Trevor was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother at a time when such a union was punishable by five years in prison. Living proof of his parents’ indiscretion, Trevor was kept mostly indoors for the earliest years of his life, bound by the extreme and often absurd measures his mother took to hide him from a government that could, at any moment, steal him away. Finally liberated by the end of South Africa’s tyrannical white rule, Trevor and his mother set forth on a grand adventure, living openly and freely and embracing the opportunities won by a centuries-long struggle.

CHRISTMAS IN OCTOBER APPRECIATION
Thanks to all those who took a moment to answer Jesus' call to minister to those in prison by writing a Christmas card to a PA prisoner.   Because of you, over 50 inmates will receive a card of hope and promise this Christmas day.   This is just one more way Methodists within our conference are doing the work of the Gospel, and Wayne Church is now a part of this ministry as well.

Cookware, children's books, packaged toys, decorations, linens, clothes, handbags, jewelry, winter outerwear, collectibles, small furniture and small electronics. Please have it all clean and in working order. As always, thank you for supporting this ministry!!
STUDIES AND CLASSES
BOOK OF JAMES STUDY
When: Starting Sunday, November 10 @ 9:15am
Where: The Upper Room (#A204, Floor 2)
This is a video-based study, written and shared by the incredible Francis Chan. Come to one, come to all.   You won’t be disappointed, and you will always be welcome! True faith produces fruit. A faith without action and without life change is ultimately a dead faith. The Book of James speaks to the realities of a living faith in Jesus—the kind of roll-up-your-sleeves and get-your-hands-dirty discipleship that is borne out of an authentic relationship with the risen Lord. James writes to believers who know suffering, who've faced trials, and who ultimately desire a deep relationship with God.

Francis Chan unpacks the dense truth contained in the Book of James in front of the iconic backdrop of San Francisco, the city where he lives and ministers. Through 12 sessions, Francis works through James verse-by-verse, challenging followers of Christ to move beyond a private, intellectual knowledge of God and His Word, to a vibrant faith that impacts every square inch of life.
