Ravenswood Food Pantry
Sees Uptick in Visitors
Day 17: Let's think about food! Providing accessible food is a vital part of keeping our communities healthy. Today take some time to think about food accessibility in our city. Check out how our partner, Ravenswood Community Services , is making adjustments to keep neighbors safe while providing them with nutritious grocery packages.

We're all experiencing shifts in how we access food that keeps us nourished. Ravenswood Community Services works to provide needed food and supplies while building community in Chicago. Creating accessible ways for people to get food is important for everyone's wellbeing! Despite making some adjustments to keep every one safe, the Ravenswood Pantry is continuing to feed our city with a weekly open grocery pick up for the community.
Let's Talk
After watching the news segment on Ravenswood Community Services, use the questions below to kick-start a great conversation with your family:

  • How has Ravenswood Pantry adjusted their programs to keep their clients safe and promote social distancing?

  • Why is it important to continue to support our neighbors in need of food or other resources?

  • How does food bring people together? Why is it important to share a meal together with your family?

  • Bonus! Share a meal with someone you miss. Set up a virtual dinner date with someone you love. Cook or enjoy a meal together over a video call. They might even have some tips on how you can perfect your favorite meal!

Community Connections
Ravenswood Community Services
Help make food more accessible. Organizations across the city are working hard to make sure Chicagoans still have access to nutritious food during this time of uncertainty. Our partner, Ravenswood Community Services is still hosting their pantry every Tuesday to help feed neighbors in their community. The pantry is in need of paper shopping bags so that neighbors can carry their food home more easily as well as non-perishable food donations.

Donation drop off is best on Tuesdays (that's today!) from 12:00 - 4:00pm at All Saints Church at 4550 N Hermitage Ave right before RSC opens the pantry at 4:00pm.

If you are unable to drop off on Tuesdays, you can also leave donations at the back entrance of All Saints Church. If you are facing the front of the church, there is a gangway between the church and the house nextdoor. Follow the gangway to a set of glass doors with a roof. Donations can be left by the doors 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday-Friday.

Try to limit unnecessary trips. If you're out grocery shopping for your own family, consider buying extra non-perishable food items or recycling your shopping bags to donate to Ravenswood Community Services.

Please wear gloves and maintain social distance while shopping and dropping off donations. If you or a family member are not feeling well, please refrain from donating at this time.
Chef Du Jour
Honeycomb Leadership Corps alumns, Andrew Wheeler, Lauren Blair and their family sent us TWO recipes to meet both our sweet and savory needs! Check out this delicious Ratatouille recipe for dinner and this mouth watering gluten free cake for dessert. Lauren bakes the cake as muffins and adds berries for a fresh kick!

Andrew and Lauren have defined volunteering in a meaningful way through Honeycomb Leadership Corps. They both have played a vital role in leading Honeycomb projects across the city, assisting Project Leaders, and mentoring younger kids. We can't wait to see them back at projects soon!
Stay connected to our Honeycomb community through our  Hive Matters Community Page  on Facebook - a collaborative forum for all Honeycomb's volunteers and local partners to share ideas, connect, and inspire service both at home and out in Chicago's communities.
