I think I need a break. It’s not going to be easy, but I believe I’ve reached my lowest and a break is my only way out.
I need a break from the news. I need to tune out. Not going to watch the market, open twitter, pick up the paper, putting Sirius on hiatus and hitting the pause on local news. A hard unplug is where I’m aiming.
1 week is the goal. I’ll need help.
The divisive chatter and clutter persistent in everything I hear, see and read is drowning me.
Look, I’m an eternal optimist because I believe in the amazing power of people to overcome any challenge. It’s spiritual.
I’m also very much aware of the power of words particularly in this virtual world we’re slipping further into. There is no more powerful way to communicate than in person. I could tell my daughters when they were young that it was time to go to bed one way and they would go skipping up the stairs and I ask them the same thing another way and they would go crying off as it to the gallows. Same message.
Everything we say can be interpreted or edited (taken out of context) and made to fit the end user’s purpose. And that’s where I’m going with the unplugging.
Back to business.
The governor just released a new proposed budget. Here is a
link to the full proposal.
Grand Avenue Vision Project is under way and the k-rails have been removed, well almost all of them.
I attended the groundbreaking for the newest senior housing project in Escondido, Valley Senior Village located at 337 E. Valley Parkway. Fifty affordable apartments for seniors will be a welcome addition to our downtown.
And finally, I participated in a noon to 1:30 library focus group on Monday. What a great example of what can come from a group of involved volunteers coalesced by a mutual love of reading combining their collective efforts to try and improve our libraries. Thank you.
Here is a
link to something I would encourage anyone who is looking to improve their professional growth register for. Many of us know of or have read/followed Escondido’s own Ken Blanchard. His organization The Ken Blanchard Companies is centered on leadership within business. The
link is to register for free to a 1-hour webinar he and Randy Conley are offering, and the Chamber highly recommends this opportunity to grow your leadership skills.
Cheers,
JR
