Childcare Loan Program

The Childcare Loan program was created with support from CBJ to generate more childcare capacity in Juneau by assisting new or existing childcare providers to access, improve or expand the physical infrastructure needed to deliver a quality childcare program to more families.

Loan Program Details:
Childcare provider must be licensed by the State of Alaska and offer full time care (at least 30 hours per week).
Use of funds: Loan proceeds can be used to  hire additional staff, assist with rent payments, purchase FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment), classroom supplies and materials, pay for modifications, major renovations, and expansions. Equipment purchases or upgrades that enhance the quality of services delivered are also eligible. Priority will be given to start-up childcare programs and existing programs that demonstrate increased capacity through the loan.

2020 Senior Survey
Are you 55 or older?

Take the Survey

The Juneau Commission on Aging (JCOA), in conjunction with the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ), is conducting a survey of area residents to help local officials and care providers gain a better sense of what is needed for Juneau's population to age in place.

If you are 55 or older, now is your opportunity to influence what services could be available to you when you need them.

Some of these questions are the same as in previous surveys, for comparison purposes. Some questions are new to reflect changes in CBJ demographics and services. Your participation now will help make a positive difference in our future.

Thank you for taking 10 - 15 minutes to complete our survey.

In Memory of Woodie Flowers
Co-Founder of FIRST & father of Gracious Professionalism

We are saddened by the news of the recent passing of Woodie Flowers, Co-Founder of FIRST and father of Gracious Professionalism.

He was the consummate mentor and inspired all of us to do better and to be better. Woodie's speech at his induction to the STEM Hall of Fame in 2017 captures his passion well and we share it here in the hopes that each of us can incorporate his philosophy into our own lives and pay it forward just as he would have.

Indicator of the Month
Juneau's Per Capita Personal Income Ranks Fifth Statewide

Per capita personal income is calculated as the total personal income of all residents in a community divided by the total population. It is an indicator of the economic well-being of the community. In 2017 (the most current year for which data is available), Juneau's per capita personal income of $66,367 was 16 percent above the state average and 28 percent above the national average, indicating a relatively affluent community. Regionally, only Skagway enjoyed a higher average per capita income in 2017 than Juneau, and statewide only three communities had a higher per capita income.

Alaska's per capita income of $57,179 put us in tenth place among all states in 2017.
