Virtual President's Circle Event
|
On Wednesday February 10th, IAIA held our first-ever Virtual President’s Circle Event.
IAIA President Dr. Robert Martin (Cherokee), and special guest, retired Academic Dean Charlene Teters (Spokane), hosted an exploration the artwork of recent and upcoming IAIA graduates: Nicholas Begay (Diné), DeAnna Autumn Leaf Suazo (Taos Pueblo), Krista Vanderblomen (Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation), and Suni Sonqo Vizcarra Wood (Quechua Nation).
The first 50 members who registered for the event received a President’s Circle goodie bag containing gifts from the IAIA Foundation and edible New Mexico treats to enjoy during the event.
How do I join the President’s Circle?
The President’s Circle is comprised of donors whose individual annual support is $2,500 or more. Annual gifts from contributors in the President’s Circle help to fund the most urgent priorities established by the President and Board of Trustees. Spring 21 Continuing Education Classes
This semester's schedule features unique and affordable educational offerings, including live, local, and online classes, webcasts, and webinars
offered on a first come, first served basis.
There are free webinars available including one hosted by the IAIA Land-Grant program, "The 4 Directions Projections: Sharing Traditional and Contemporary Indigenous Knowledge to nurture people, revere places, and promote purpose." The series focuses on traditional knowledge and culture featuring speakers from across Indian country.

Dear IAIA Community,
On behalf of Scott Whitaker, Chair, and the IAIA Student of the Year Committee, it is my pleasure to announce that Bryson Meyers has been selected as IAIA’s Student of the Year. Sponsored by the American Indian College Fund, this award is based on academic achievements and commitment to community service. Bryson, an enrolled member of the Chippewa-Cree Nation, is a senior majoring in Studio Arts with a concentration in Digital Arts and Print Making and has earned a high cumulative academic grade point average.
Bryson’s community service includes serving as president of the IAIA’s Associated Student Government and IAIA Ambassador, in which he represented the college at various meetings and conferences. He also conducted tours for prospective students and other visitors to campus and served as the Southwest Representative to the AIHEC Student Congress.
Bryson’s educational goals are to graduate with a BFA and then complete his Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Arts, teach art to Native Americans, and use his education and training to assist his tribe and community.
Please join me in congratulating Bryson as IAIA’s 2021 Student of the Year.

308 Students received a total of over $171,000 in relief funds. Amounts for each student are based on their enrollment status (full time/part time) and
Pell Grant qualification.

The recently-launched IAIA Low Residency MFA in Studio Arts Program has been getting much attention—and folks wanted to know more. MFA SA Program Director Dr. Marion Caro (Colombian Mestizo) and associates held an Open House on February 19th to provide an overview of the program and answer questions.

MoCNA Reopened to the Public!
The IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) is once again open to the public at 25% capacity (Maximum of 40 individuals at any given time).
MoCNA's new hours are Wednesdays through Sundays, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
or in-person at the MoCNA museum store.
Please self assess your health before visiting the museum. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please delay your visit to another time.
Face coverings and social distancing will be required while in the museum.

Please join me in welcoming Flannery Durán Barney to IAIA! Flannery is MoCNA’s new Preparator and Exhibition Coordinator. Flannery comes to us from the Roswell Museum and Art Center, where she served as preparator, assistant registrar, and collections specialist. Prior to that she worked as assistant collections manager at New Mexico State University Art Gallery. Flannery is very experienced in preparing and installing museum exhibitions, including creating display mounts and building temporary walls. She brings more than ten years of art handling experience to MoCNA and has also skills in welding, metalsmithing, and digital media.

Scholarships. Needed by more than 80% of our students to help pursue their studies at IAIA.
Academic Programs. IAIA needs support for visiting artists, student interns, artists in residence and innovative equipment to keep IAIA at the forefront of educational offerings.
Student Emergency Fund. The fund provides crucial assistance when a student has a sudden emergency with no available resources or funds.
General Operating Support. This helps IAIA take advantage of sudden opportunities to enhance the student experience.
