Ancestry.com Free Remote Access is Ending

Since the spring of 2020 Ancestry.com generously provided access to their library edition from remote locations. Ancestry's Library Edition is available within libraries only, but with the onset of the Covid19 pandemic they provided the genealogy database to users outside library walls.

This extended service ended on December 31, 2021. Users will be required to visit a Polk County Library Cooperative site to use Ancestry.com's free Library Edition.

The Lake Wales Public Library provides HeritageQuest, an excellent genealogy database to our library patrons. HeritageQuest is comparable to Ancestry.com and is available for usage outside the library.

To access HeritageQuest visit Lake Wales Public Library's Databases and select the H tab, then HeritageQuest. You must have your Polk Co. Library Card available, and your home library must be Lake Wales. For information call 863-678-4004.

Lake Wales
Mardi Gras Mini-Exhibit
at LW Public Library

Utilizing the Lake Wales Public Library's Marc McClernan - Lake Wales Mardi Gras Archives, the staff of the Lake Wales History Museum has created a Mini-Exhibit focusing on the history of Lake Wales Mardi Gras.

The Lake Wales Public Library received a large donation of Lake Wales Mardi Gras documents, photos, posters and recordings. This collection was preserved, catalogued and organized as the Marc McClernan - Lake Wales Mardi Gras Archives. McClernan was one of the original organizers of the Lake Wales Mardi Gras Festival.

The Mini-Exhibit is located at the Library's Main entrance. The LW History Museum is utilizing many other components of the archive to develop an exhibit honoring this historical LW event.

LW Mardi Gras will be celebrated February 25 & 26th. The LW Mardi Gras Parade is set for Saturday, February 26, 3 p.m. through downtown Lake Wales.

The Lake Wales Public Library will close at 12 noon on Saturday, February 26, allowing for additional parking for parade goers.
