Given the many challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, a show of solidarity exhibited through volunteering is heartening. In the current crisis, being connected with a cause and collaborating with others towards the same goal can be comforting, helping people to overcome feelings of inertia and helplessness. At the same time, the COVID-19 has presented our City and State with pressing demands which has increased the need for volunteers. This week's "Online Briefing for Faith Leaders," hosted by the San Francisco Interfaith Council and supported by the COVID Command Center's Joint Information Center Virtual Outreach Team, will shine a spotlight on the challenges, benefits and opportunities of volunteering in these times of the COVID-19.

Candice Aquino
Regional Volunteer Coordinator

Candice Aquino is the California Regional Volunteer Coordinator for Region II, based out of the Bay Area. As the Region II Volunteer Coordinator she works with food banks and community partners in the Bay Area and North Coast region to address staffing and resource shortages through the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to joining the California Volunteers team she worked as the Program Manager for the Tom Steyer 2020 campaign, where her experience working in public service guided her work with the political surrogate program. As a former Recreation Coordinator with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department at Camp Mather, Candice was part of a team that worked to expand access to safe, affordable recreation programming for San Francisco families. Her passion for service developed through her work as a Constituent Representative, and later as the Field Director for the Bay Area, in Senator Barbara Boxer's Oakland Office. Candice brings her experience working with federal and local agencies to the important mission of serving California residents.
California Volunteers is the state office tasked with engaging Californians in service, volunteering and civic action to tackle our State's most pressing challenges while mobilizing all Californians to volunteer and serve in their communities. The #CaliforniansForAll service initiative was launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to build on the efforts of California Volunteers to establish a statewide volunteer corps to help with the state's response to emergencies and disasters. California Volunteers also administers the AmeriCorps programs in California with over 80 programs providing critical services to more than 160,000 Californians annually.
