Community Response Fund for Nonprofits
Akron Community Foundation has distributed nearly $100,000 in grants to nonprofits on the frontlines of the coronavirus outbreak through its Community Response Fund for Nonprofits. Established with an initial $100,000 from the community foundation, the fund has since grown to more than $200,000 thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals.  The fund is rapidly  providing flexible resources to Summit and Medina county nonprofits supporting their clients' basic needs.    Learn More
Akron Community Foundation awarded more than $3.5 million in grants this quarter, including more than half a million dollars in board discretionary funding for education programs. A $17,500 grant to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Summit, Medina & Stark Counties will support one-on-one mentoring programs for children in low-income and at-risk families.
Akron Community Foundation recently approved $84,000 in grants as part of its second year of On the Table Community Impact Awards. The grants will be distributed to nearly 40 local nonprofits for projects that address issues discussed during last October's On the Table Greater Akron event.
New fund helps feed the hungryNew-Funds
The Good Samaritan Hunger Center Endowment Fund is one of 20 funds recently established at Akron Community Foundation. The endowment fund was created to support Good Samaritan Hunger Center's mission  to feed the hungry in Akron and surrounding communities with a goal that one day no man, woman or child will go hungry.
CARES Act includes charitable gift provisionsCARESAct
The new  Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act that was signed into law on March 27 provides an opportunity for those who can no longer itemize their taxes to get a charitable deduction in 2020 for up to $300 in contributions to public charities (like Akron Community Foundation and our Community Response Fund for Nonprofits). But, this provision does not allow for gifts to donor-advised funds specifically.
