JUNE Updates, News, and Resources
Greetings!
This will be our final formal newsletter until the Fall, and we want to take a moment to share the following:

We at CHTI want to acknowledge the hurt, grief, and trauma of the last few weeks. The murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, are, tragically, the most recent examples of the violent consequences of structural racism in America. We work hard to center racial equity in our work, which compels us to make a statement now.  We support the nationwide (and worldwide) protests against police brutality, and we stand in solidarity with the Black community, including our Black colleagues, friends, and family . We know that many of you are hurting--we are too. But we also know that change doesn’t come easily, and we must continue to fight the racial injustices in this country, and stand with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) people who have suffered disproportionately from the structural racism that supported the founding of our nation, and permeates through every sector, structure, and institution in America. We hope that you are all taking care of yourselves, and continuing to learn, challenge, and educate yourselves on this topic. To echo Audre Lorde, “your silence will not protect you”-- so let’s stand up, together, and shout loudly in the face of injustice.

Wishing you all peace and good health this summer,

-The CHTI team (Gina, Daisy, Kelly, and Tonayo)

UPCOMING TRAINING!
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST.
ONLINE TRAINING VIA THE ZOOM PLATFORM

Topics : Overview of the history of race-based inequities and the systems that perpetuate them, cultural competency skill building, and tools for addressing inequities in the community

Description : From the devastating health disparities exposed by Covid-19 to the on-going racial injustices in health, housing, schooling, work, and criminal justice, we have our work cut out for us. That said, Covid-19 has shown us that large-scale systems and policies can be changed swiftly when needed. This training will strategize how we can take that momentum forward into strong pushes for the kinds of structural change that will dismantle racism and increase health equity in our state. Participants will get to work together to identify the systems and policies they want to take on, and collectively build new strategies and language to move this urgent work forward.

Audience : Individuals or teams working towards community health who may be new to discussing power and racial dynamics in the context of their community work.

Trainers : Mo Barbosa (HRiA) and Lori Lobenstine (Design Studio for Social Intervention)

Learning Objectives Participants will be able to:
1. Define structural racism and the systems that perpetuate it
2. Identify strategies for challenging systems and creating change
3. Use the I-A-E tool to contextualize negative health outcomes in the ideas and arrangements that help create them
