An Update from the Director
|
Dear CDLC Members and Supporters,
I hope everyone had a good end of the semester/school year or are gearing up for summer reading and other activities depending on who you serve! Here, we are busy planning too!
Providing quality professional development to members is a priority. We are planning programs for the next year and will also have member tours and social events. We'll be doing a call-out for possible speakers and speaker recommendations and will also be asking about spaces to hold programs and events. Your suggestions are welcome and your participation is appreciated!

THANK YOU:
To those who attended our Annual Meeting! You may have dodged some raindrops or had an escorted golf cart ride to get there! A very special thanks to our entertaining and dynamic speakers Emily Spinner, Michael Daly and Judith Wines. Their presentations, as well as those from other events, are available on our Continuing Education page.

I recently met with our committee chairs: Kimberly Mitchell from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, chair of the Committee on Resource Sharing; Colleen Smith from the Town of Ballston Community Library, chair of the Regional Automation Advisory Committee; and Mary Van Ullen from the University at Albany, chair of the Collection Development Committee. We shared updates; discussed possible committee-sponsored events, projects and collaborations; and talked about how to keep members informed and involved. Watch for a call for committee members this summer. Thanks to Kim, Colleen and Mary, and all committee members, for your ideas and dedication!
We are also meeting with interest group facilitators to assess what is working well and to plan for the next year. Interest group meetings are taking a hiatus this summer and will be back in full-swing for the fall. All are welcome to attend these meetings!
Familiarize yourself with these groups here.

THANK YOU:
To Lisa Trubitt, Assistant CIO and Chief of Staff at the University at Albany
, who served
on the CDLC Board of Trustees for two full terms (ten years) and chaired the Personnel Committee. As one of our "Non-Librarian/Research Community" trustees, Lisa brought a unique perspective, mastered the world of library-related acronyms, and was a great asset to both me personally and to the organization. Best wishes Lisa!

WELCOME:
Join us in welcoming Emily Spinner, the Clinical Medical Librarian at Ellis Medicine, to the CDLC Board to fill the remainder of a term. Ellis Medicine receives Hospital Library Services Program services through CDLC and Emily will bring the unique perspective of medical librarians to the Board. Welcome Emily!

MEMBER NEWS: We welcome the New York State Department of Transportation as a member! Their collection, not surprisingly, focuses on all aspects transportation-related. We are working with them to make their collection accessible and to connect them with members.
We also welcome two new CDLC member directors: Dr. Elizabeth Stack is the new Executive Director at the
Irish American Heritage Museum, while Dr. Gina Gould takes over at miSci!

Showcase your collections-showcase your library! CDLC, in partnership with the public and school library systems, is working with local PBS station WMHT to promote and share information about their Great American Read project.
Join us
Monday June 11 from 4:00-5:30 at CDLC
where WMHT will provide an overview of the project and discuss how regional libraries can get involved.
Also visit our
Great American Read website,
which includes information about the project as well as the list of books selected, links to quizzes and polls, the episode schedule and official trailers, and links for promotional material downloads.

SOMETHING NEW: CDLC is piloting the Ask the Lawyer service which is administered by WNYLRC, our sister council in Buffalo. We have retained the services of attorney Stephanie "Cole" Adams (who did a fabulous job presenting at the Resource Sharing Symposium!) to offer CDLC and its members timely input on intellectual property, digital rights management, vendor contracts, first amendment, civil rights, employment law, and other legal issues that can impact library operations. Read the helpful RAQs here-there is a lot of good information!

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Library is Open: Academic Libraries 2018 Conference takes place
October 11 and 12 in Ithaca. Stay tuned to the Academic Libraries Conference page for information.

Happy (almost) Summer!
Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
Kind Regards,
