Holiday Hours
City offices will be closed on Friday, Dec. 25. Some offices may elect to close early on Thursday, Dec. 24, so please call ahead to ensure availability if you need to make an in-person visit that day. Offices will also be closed on Friday, Jan. 1, to celebrate the New Year.
Operation Cover-Up
Want to donate some warmth to those in need? The Murray City Fire Department has set up a no-contact drop-off bin behind Station #84, at 163 East 5900 South. Needed items include new or gently used coats, blankets, gloves, beanies, or other outdoor wear.
Operation Cover-Up helps provide articles of clothing to the homeless and others in need during harsh winter months by working closely with various charities and social service groups. This program is only successful because of the generosity of our great community.
Short-Term Rental Survey
The Murray City Community and Economic Development Department is seeking input about short-term rentals in residential zones. Short-term rentals are typically less than 30 days and are often associated with Airbnb, VRBO, Turnkey, etc. Currently, short-term rentals are not allowed in residential zoning districts.

The city would appreciate your feedback as we explore options for an ordinance to regulate short-term rentals. All survey responses will be kept confidential. We appreciate and value your input.
Senior Recreation Center Virtual Programs
The Murray Senior Recreation Center is working hard to provide programs for our seniors during this pandemic. There are now some virtual classes available through Zoom, such as history, art, and even a grief support group. Contact the center at 801-264-2635 for more information.
Happy Holidays from the Murray Library!

Employee Recognition: John Pearson
Pictured: Kim Sorensen, Parks and Recreation Director, John Pearson, Golf Pro, Mayor Camp
The Mayor was pleased to recognize John Pearson as the recipient of the Mayor’s Award of Excellence in November. John is Murray City’s Golf Pro, responsible for managing the Lynn F. Pett Murray Parkway Golf Course. John began his career with Murray in 1987. He worked four years as a part time employee in the pro shop. He was hired full time in 1991 and promoted to head Golf Pro in 2015.

Murray’s Golf Course is known as one of the best “if not the best” managed courses in Utah. This recognition is a reflection of John’s management style and passion for success. Spend just a few moments talking to John, and you quickly learn he loves his job, especially serving and working with people. Golfers, employees and individuals who meet John on the street quickly become his friend. John will tell you he has made many lifelong friends while working at the golf course. His customer service, attention to detail, and caring personality make Murray’s Golf Course the best.

During the pandemic, John was instrumental in keeping Murray’s golf course safely open.  Golf Pros throughout the valley called and followed John’s lead when opening their courses, using John’s proven plan.
Utility Bill Charges
Murray City provides and bills for power, water, sewer, stormwater, and garbage collection. You may be billed for only a few of these services depending on where you live.

The city has recently received questions from some of our utility customers about a noticeable increase in their bill. Learn more about our rates and increases by viewing a summary on our website.
Recycling Changes
Recycling changes are coming to Murray beginning Jan. 4, 2021. If you live west of 900 East, in the Ace Disposal pick-up area, recycling containers will be picked up every other week.

Residents living east of 900 East, in the Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District area, will not experience any changes to their recycling pick-up schedule.
Virtual Book Buddies
Salt Lake County Animal Services
Salt Lake County Animal Services has relaunched and expanded their Book Buddies program virtually! This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for children to get in some reading time, and a way to sooth a shelter pet.

Children sign up to read to a shelter pet from their home. The program helps them improve their reading skills while helping shelter animals with socialization. Dogs and cats find the rhythmic sounds of a voice very soothing. This is for beginning level readers and up.
