This past Friday we completed the first school week of 2020-2021 under OCPS' LaunchEd model. This week we carry forward again with one change: on Friday, August 21 a number of our Knights will return to campus for face-to-face instruction in the classrooms. I do want to say thank you again to our students, parents, educators, and staff as I realize that a virtual start poses challenges for many, and we respect all perspectives and situations. OCPS has been working extremely hard over recent days and weeks to provide solutions for all of our families. One area that I am especially pleased with is the work district staff has accomplished trying to make the technological aspects of digital learning as easy as possible through their nonstop work on the OCPS website. As our school and the district hear from community members on specific topics, work quickly gets under way to provide answers to issues brought forward. If you are opening this week's issue on Sunday before the school week begins, kindly invest a minute or two to visit the OCPS website.
For those Knight families that have students returning to campus next Friday, please know that we have been working for weeks to make sure the campus has been deep cleaned and sanitized. Once the students arrive on campus, they will also find a number of procedures in place for their health protection (some of these have been featured in recent issues of The Kingdom's Chronicle). Please click here for a link to the OCPS webpage outlining what to expect with the Face-to-Face instructional model. My hope is that as our students gradually return to the campus they return united with new skills and practices that will only serve to benefit all of our LNMS learners. In the meantime, we encourage our Lake Nona community to continuing working with us to create the safest and strongest educational environment for our Knights, their families and the LNMS staff.

In Athletics, OCPS has decided to delay middle school sports until the second semester for the 2020-2021 school year. The plan is still in the works, but we will offer one gymnasium sport and one outdoor sport each grading period during the third and fourth nine weeks. The goal will be to offer all four sports if it is deemed that we can safely do so.
Once we have everything set and a schedule made, we will make sure to get those updates out to the parents and community as soon as possible. Students will still have the same opportunities for middle school athletics that they've had in the past - we just won't begin until January 2021. If a student wants to participate in both sports during the same nine weeks, we will ensure that coaches make that work for the athlete.

Flip The Monday Blues To Go Time!
 After the weekend, Mondays are a time to ramp onto the week ahead. Unfortunately, for many students and adults Monday can frequently be the slowest day of the week. But what if you marked Monday as go time for big dreams and goals? You'd get more accomplished all week! Think of it as a matter of physics. Objects in motion tend to stay in motion. If you can look at Monday as being the biggest day of the week to get something done, you can create some momentum on Monday which can create an incredible difference throughout the week ahead. Consider this approach here at the start of a brand new school year: * At the end of each week, commit to a written plan (or at the very least, a short list) for the following Monday that includes high-priority items. Then you can rest and relax with the idea and the knowledge that you will be ready Monday. This will give you more control than many people's negative "same-old, same-old" attitude toward Monday. * Grab it. Instead of easing into the week and starting with those easy tasks that you know that you can get done quickly, tackle the hardest and most important task first. * Do by dreams. Make Monday a new chance to check off specific tasks that move you closer to being able to say, "I did it!" Consider this question. If you had started something new one year ago this week, something you have dreamed about and worked on it every week since, what might you have been able to accomplish? There is an old expression that goes like this: "One year from now you may wish you had started today."Have a great week Knights!
