"Finding Warner Gnomeys" - a fun activity for all ages.
An anonymous and creative resident is hiding felted wool, "gnomed" wild creatures around Warner. She is going to try to do this weekly and will send photo hints for this newsletter (see here) and at https://www.instagram.com/warnergnomey.
If someone finds a "gnome", they are encouraged to brag with a picture on the 'Let's Talk About Warner' FB page and/or Instagram @WarnerGnomey.
Correction to last week's issue: it is yours to keep if you find it!
Stay tuned for information about some outdoor activities on Saturday and Sunday Feb. 26 and 27 at Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum and Saturday. February 26 at the Chandler Reservation's old Ski Tow area on Mink Hill Road (Sledding hill!).

Help identify the next recipient for Warner’s Boston Post Cane
In 1909, the Boston Post newspaper presented gold-headed walking sticks to many New England towns with the provision the cane should be given to the oldest citizen. The Post passed out of existence years ago, but the tradition of the cane survives in New Hampshire and Warner, where it is still passed to the oldest resident. According to Barbara Staples, “The Granite State’s Boston Post Canes: a New England Tradition,” only towns with populations over 500 received the cane. Of New Hampshire’s 224 towns, 176 were recipients of the cane. The Town of Warner's Selectmen in conjunction with the Warner Historical Society has chosen to award the cane and a certificate to the oldest citizen and the cane is then kept at the Warner Historical Society.
Bud Thompson was the most recent holder of the Boston Post cane. Please contact the Warner Historical Society if you or a family member were born between 1924 – 1930 and are still living in Warner. Call 603-456-2437 or e-mail info@warnerhistorical.org.

Register Your Position Remotely or Send a Letter: Currently, both the House and the Senate are planning to conduct all committee hearings in person, without the option to testify remotely that was available last year, and this seems unlikely to change.
New Process for Submitting Written Testimony to House Committees
The Legislature’s website was updated recently to allow written testimony to be submitted to House Committees. Previously, submitting written testimony required finding the appropriate committee and clicking the link to “email all committee members.” Now, those wishing to submit written testimony can simply navigate to the front page of the Legislature’s website and click the link for the “House Testimony Submission Form” below the header “Links to Meeting Schedules.”
Currently, no similar process exists for the Senate. People should still submit their written testimony by clicking “email entire committee” on the committee page or register their position using the Senate Remote Sign In Sheet.

We are please to welcome our new Library Assistant Ella Cademartori, who has previously worked at libraries in Fitzwilliam and Dublin, N.H., and who posts reviews of young adult (teen) books at https://www.instagram.com/ya_reading_adventures/.
Ella is taking the place of Linda Lacasse, (who may still occasionally be helping out), covering the check out desk, handling Interlibrary loans, and the many other tasks that keep us busy providing library services, on Tuesdays and Thursdays..
Also joining the team, working as occasional Substitutes when needed, will be Rachel Parsons and Debbie Reznicek.
Some libraries in NH have temporarily changed services by returning to curbside pickup and/or limited time visits. So far the Pillsbury Free Library is maintaining the same services and COVID protocols in place since June (Masks and distancing), and will continue to do so as long as staff are not unavailable due to COVID exposures. However, anyone can request items to be prepared for pickup at the door. If you prefer to visit in person, you may be interested to know the building has iWave bipolar ionization in operation, to help clean the air of any particles.

What? Read books about some veterinarians from the Yorkshire Dales during the 1930s? Mother suggested it, so I did. 40 years later, I'm still reading James Herriot's tales.
Through these delightful stories, the people of All Creatures Great and Small soon become old friends: Vets Siegfried Farnon and his irascible younger brother, Tristan; Jim Herriot, the new vet on the team and his love interest, Helen; Mrs. Hall, the kind, sometimes curt housekeeper; and, eccentric Mrs. Pumfrey and her darling Pekinese, Tricki Woo! Warning: Any reader who suffers shortness of breath after sustained, hearty laughter might want to give these books a pass, because they are laced with humor.
