Legislative Update from Senator Ned Claxton

On Nov. 8, I had the privilege of visiting Poland Community School and speaking with three classes of fourthgraders. The students asked thoughtful questions about government and the job I do as a State Senator. I was glad to share my experiences with them and get them all more excited about government! Thank you to Ms. Scribner for setting up this great experience. I look forward to other opportunities to visit schools around the district!

Honoring those who serve on Veterans Day
Veterans Day is a time to honor and reflect on the sacrifices Maine veterans have made in service to our country. It also serves as a reminder that we can and should do more to support our veterans as they transition back into our communities. 

Our efforts to honor and support our veterans must not be limited to one day a year, or words of praise alone. I believe we must turn our words into action, which is why I have worked alongside my colleagues to pass laws that make a difference in the lives of these brave men and women. This year, we passed laws to reduce veteran homelessness and promote veteran-friendly workplaces. Next year, we hope to pick up where we left off by expanding property tax relief for veterans.

In my recent column in the Twin City Times, I recapped my day with Senate President Troy Jackson spent getting out and about in the community! We visited Planson International, the New Gloucester Community Store, Bell Farms, and held a town hall in the evening. We spoke with lots of great people and learned more about how we can help local businesses prosper.

Don't forget safety during hunting season
It's hunting season! If you're going out into the Maine woods, remember to wear blaze orange to keep yourself and hunters safe. Don't forget to put some orange on your pets, too! The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has more tips to help hunters to keep safe here.
