Dear Magnificat Community,

I hope you and your loved ones are healthy, safe, and finding opportunities for connection during these challenging and unprecedented times. 

We are very fortunate that we have been able to provide online learning and activities even though our campus is closed; but our students, parents, faculty, and staff are certainly missing our typical ways of being with each other each day and during special events. We know that our senior class and their families are especially impacted during these times, as their final weeks of classes are being spent apart with uncertainty about when we will be able to gather together again. 

At the beginning of this school year, no one of us could have predicted that we would find ourselves in this strange and unfamiliar place. And yet, we also find ourselves in the final week of Lent, a familiar and expected liturgical season year after year in the Christian tradition. Lent, like these times, is often characterized by darkness and mystery, but also an inherent certainty in the gift and grace of resurrection. Though we are faced with great uncertainty about what lies ahead for our community, our country, and our world, I invite each of us to consider the certainty of the resurrection. 

At Christmas, we consider what it means for God to become human, and at Easter, we consider what it means for humanity to be resurrected. We are certain that with darkness comes light and that with death comes new life. In what ways can we bring light and new life to our world that is shrouded in such darkness? In what ways can we look to the hope of the resurrection to guide us in courage and faith?

May Mary’s courage and deep faith, even at the foot of the cross, give us wisdom; and may Christ’s resurrection be our guide as we move through the weeks and months ahead.
