Good afternoon, CCDS Families,
Two really important things in this update:
1. You all are doing an amazing job in supporting your students in Distance Learning. We are all adjusting to many new realities at this time, and we appreciate you all so much. We miss your students tremendously and have been grateful to be able to reconnect with them this week.
2. State Superintendent Tony Thurmond and CA Governor Newsom both recommended all CA schools remain in a Distance Learning format for the remainder of the school year, and students remain off campus. Our own Butte County Superintendent, Mary Sakuma, also supports this recommendation and all Butte County schools, including CCDS, will keep facilities closed for the remainder of the year.
We will continue with Distance Learning for the remainder of the school year, through June 4.
During this extended time of isolation due to COVID-19, we want to be a place of
community
and
connection
for students. We do not want to be a source of stress or difficulty for families. These are difficult times on many levels and distance learning formats are inequitable by nature, so our main goal is to create spaces to connect with kids and opportunities for them to engage their curiosity each day.
Students should be logging into
Google Classroom
and visiting the
CCDS Distance Learning website
as many times a day as possible. The teachers have put together a lot of great resources there to extend learning opportunities. A great community activity on the home page is the K-8 March Madness bracket of picture books!
Finally, I've been reflecting a lot on the lifeskills that have been a foundation of CCDS for the past 25 years. It's great that we talk about lifeskills, compassion, perseverance, and growth-mindset. It's even more important that when things are challenging, we all live those things - we show the lifeskills, we take care of each other, and we prioritize the people. This is the work that matters for our students and our community.
We are a school community who will look for ways to make this experience special for our students and will make sure students are all seen and known in this difficult time. I couldn't imagine being part of a better community when navigating challenges and putting students first!
In Gratitude,
Wendy
