Session News
Business:

  • Session approved the 2022 pledge of $4,400.00 to the Presbytery of South Louisiana/Synod of the Sun/General Assembly. Payments of $367 per month will be submitted.
  • Session approved the 2022 Budget as presented. Expenses of $90,822.00 are projected to exceed income of $84,810.00 by ($6,012.00).
  • Dave Adams was elected Treasurer for 2022.
  • Louise Dye was elected Clerk of Session for 2022.
  • Jack Bagent and Barb Pfeifer were elected to the 2022 Nominating Committee as members from Session. 
  • Session approved the 2022 Timeline for Business of the Church including the Communion Schedule: February 6, March 6, April 3, April 10 (Palm Sunday), April 17 (Easter), May 1, June 6 (Pentecost), July 3, August 7, September 4, October 2, November 6, December 4, December 25 (Christmas), and January 1, 2023.
  • Session members agreed to the following committee assignments: Christian Educa-tion/Congregational Care – Connie Buck, Evangelism & Membership/Missions – Barb and Bill Pfeifer, Finance & Personnel – Jack Bagent, Property - John Dye, and Worship & Music – Louise Dye.
  • Session approved the continuation through 2022 of Highland’s contract with Roxanne Cockerham-Brent for weekly cleaning services at $100 per week.
  • Session approved the increase of Halena Nguyen’s compensation for bookkeeping from $17.00 per hour to $20.00 per hour through 2022, effective immediately.
  • Session approved the continuation through 2022 of Highland’s contract with Dalina “Dee” Merchant to help with maintenance of flower beds surrounding the sanctuary and the administration buildings at a rate of $15.00 per hour for no more than 10 hours each month.

Reports:

Clerk of Session, Correspondence:  
  • A request from the Secretary of State to file a Domestic Corporation Annual Report was received. The Annual Report was filed online.
  • A thank you letter was received from the Salvation Army for a donation to their Angel Tree project.
  • A letter was received from the Presbytery of South Louisiana thanking Highland for its giving in 2021.
  • A letter was received from the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge. A job description for Part-time Executive Director was included.
  • A reminder to order palms was received from Palm Gardens, Inc.
  • A thank you letter was received from Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services.

Christian Education & Congregational Care
  • Homebound members continue to be contacted by mail, email, or phone on a regular basis.

Evangelism/Membership
  • The average attendance for November was 16. The average attendance for December was 20. We welcomed 11 guests in December. 

Finance
  • For the month of November, expenses of $4,030.76 exceeded income of $3,938.29 by ($92.47). 
  • For the month of December, income of $14,256.41 exceeded expenses of $11,115.31 by $3,141.10. 
  • For the year of 2021, income of $108,596.38 exceeded expenses of $78,999.91 by $29,596.47. 

Missions
  • A donation of $100.00 from the Missions budget was sent to the Salvation Army for the Angel Tree program.
  • A request to provide funding for Christmas gifts for a family of eight was received from the Holy Grill. A special collection of $400.00 was provided.
  • Two books each for 69 first graders at Magnolia Woods Elementary were delivered as a Christmas Gift of Literacy.
  • $225.00 was received in the special offering for Heifer International.
  • $310.00 was received in the Christmas Joy offering.
  • The coordination of bread pickup for the Shepherd’s Market is going well.

Pastor’s Report
  • It is a pleasure to have visitors in attendance.
  • Ideas for upcoming Christian Education opportunities are being explored.

Worship
  • Current Covid Mitigation policies for worship and their impact with the current Omicron spike were discussed. Masks will be requested for Sunday worship.
