We are pleased to share with you the following news, information and ministry opportunities taking place within our synod and throughout the ELCA. Our e-newsletter is typically distributed semi-monthly in two separate issues. One issue includes Pacifica Synod and ELCA news items, along with prayer requests. The second issue contains ministry celebrations, events and opportunities, and positions within our synod and beyond.

You're Invited - Installation Services Across Our Synod
Installation Service - The Rev. Jennifer Zahnow - Saturday, November 16
You are invited to join Our Saviour's Lutheran in Orange for the installation of their new pastor, the Rev. Jennifer Zahnow on Saturday, November 16 at 10:00 a.m. Our Saviour's is located at 800 N. Cambridge Street, Orange. Clergy are invited to vest and process, with the color of the day as green. A lunch reception will be held following the service. Those attending are asked to RSVP to the church office at [email protected].

Rev. Jennifer Zahnow has been a pastor since 2006. She has served congregations in Nebraska, Arizona and Nevada.  She graduated from Dana Collage with a bachelor's degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Elementary Education. She graduated from Trinity Lutheran Seminary with a Master of Divinity.  She graduated from Sierra Nevada Collage with a Master of Arts in Teaching with TEASL and Autism endorsements.  She has taught in both public and private schools and is a former Director of a Christian Academy. Throughout her life she has served on a variety of synod committees and has attended several Churchwide Assemblies. Recently, she was on the Grand Canyon Synod Council where she served as the representative from the Colorado River Conference, the chair of the Synod Audit Committee and a member of the Committee on Discipline. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, photography and Disneyland.

You are invited to join St. Paul Lutheran in Fullerton for the installation of their new pastor, the Rev. Nate Allen on Saturday, December 21 at 10:00 a.m. St. Paul is located at 111 W. Las Palmas Avenue, Fullerton. Clergy are invited to vest and process, with the color of the day as blue. 

A reception will be held following the service. Those planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP to [email protected].

Global Mission Update - Pastor Hitoshi and Satoko Adachi
Pa stor Hitoshi Adachi (former Assistant to the Bishop in the Pacifica Synod) and his wife, Satoko, are currently serving as missionaries with the Japan Evangelicial Lutheran Church in Kumamoto, Japan. The Cupboard at Calvary, San Diego

The Cupboard at Calvary Lutheran, San Diego was chosen to be the 2019 Non-profit Partner of the Year for the San Diego Jacobs and Cushman Food Bank. Director of Services Kristin Timmons (a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran, San Diego) is holding the clear glass award. This is the second time The Cupboard has received this award. Congratulations and thank you for your valuable ministry!

Congratulations to Pastor John Barton and his wife Sarah on the birth of their first child,  Danielle Elena Barton, born on September 18. 

Pastor John serves as pastor of Faith Lutheran in Menifee where they are tickled pink at Danielle's arrival!

This session focuses on how to find the best nursing home possible for your loved one or yourself. Learn what to do to promote quality once your loved one is in a facility. Get resources and ideas so care can be person centered. Includes time for questions and resources that can help those who need long term care.

The weekend program offers large group sessions with speakers and praise music. Friday night activities include extreme sports, games and much more! Saturday morning workshops will focus on teen faith topics and the afternoon will be spent at Disneyland. Sunday concludes with morning worship.

Positions Within Our Synod and Beyond
Choir Director - King of Glory, Fountain Valley
King of Glory Lutheran Church in Fountain Valley is seeking a part-time Choir Director. The Choir Director will prepare and lead the choir and accomplish additional tasks related to this role, as noted below.

To fulfill that responsibility, the Choir Director shall:
  • Lead weekly rehearsals in preparation for Sunday and special worship services; then lead the choir in worship services on Sunday mornings at the 8 a.m. worship service and on special occasions and in special services throughout the church year (e.g., Ash Wednesday services).
  • Participate in general planning and leadership of King of Glory's music/worship ministry; help choose music for the choir based upon the liturgical calendar and the specific themes expressed in the Pastor's planning documents; and assist the Pastor in planning weekly hymns for 8 a.m. worship services.
  • Establish and publish a schedule of music and performances as early as practicable.
  • Help create an environment in which choir members experience fulfillment in sharing their gifts and supporting the church's mission and also experience personal joy and fulfillment in this ministry.
  • Search out, develop, and organize a body of choral music for the choir's use.
  • Consult with the pastor and/or Congregation Council representative on the preparation of an annual budget for choir needs.

Campus Ministry Administrator - Agape House, SDSU
Agape House at San Diego State University seeks a 3/4-time Administrator to lead visitor reception, manage office and facility, design and publish communications, and maintain records and bookkeeping. Minimum qualifications include: three or more years administrative experience with reception, Quickbooks and written bookkeeping (including accounts receivable and accounts payable), database, and digital publishing; a heart for radically inclusive faith community with young adults; excellent organizational and verbal and written skills for public communication and technology; and preferred competency with multicultural and inter-religious community. Wage and benefits negotiable commensurate with experience and skills.
