Fall 2020
Committed to Transplant
Our mission at the Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program is to maximize opportunities for transplantation for all patients who seek our care and expertise. We are committed to delivering life-enhancing transplant services with compassion for each patient. Our patients' health and safety has, and always will be, our first priority.

During this challenging period we have been transplanting actively and safely with outstanding outcomes. We want our transplant community to know we are here for them.

For the comfort of our patients we have made the following changes to allow for less frequent in person visits and allow for social distancing:

  • Video Visits with our Providers
  • Flexible and convenient access to health care from the comfort of your home.
  • New and Spacious Clinic Space
  • We are seeing select patients at The David H. Koch Center 9th floor by appointment only in order to abide by social distancing regulations.
  • COVID-Safe Operating Rooms and Transplant Unit
  • When you come in for your transplant, and as you recover, you can feel safe and secure as rigorous cleaning and safety measures are in place.
Transplant Journeys
"At just 29 years old, my kidneys were starting to fail after many years of living with kidney disease. With the huge support of my family and several family members getting tested, my brother David was almost a perfect match. From early on, the doctors and staff at Cornell were always available to help guide us through the process.
And before we knew it we were scheduled a date of surgery for March 5th. Unfortunately, shortly before our surgery date, we got a call that our procedure was being delayed due to COVID-19. Anxiously waiting to hear back from the staff at Cornell, we finally got the call that our new date was June 10th. Our coordinator assured us that the hospital was taking all the necessary precautions to reopen post-Covid and explained to us the new standards for surgery and recovery. All staff members were being quarantined and tested and will be wearing masks at all times during surgery and recovery. Thankfully the surgery went very well. We were in recovery for 5 days with excellent care from the nurses, and now my brother and I are doing great. I feel better than ever with much more energy. And once the COVID-19 situation has gotten better, we will be planning a surf trip which is something we have been wanting to do for sometime. ”

Transplant Journeys
"My journey started 8 years ago when my kidneys started to fail. I was ready to finally schedule my transplant late in February 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic my surgery was postponed to an undetermined date. While waiting for a potential date I needed to start dialysis, and just a week after I started dialysis I contracted COVID-19. After I had fully recovered, I received a call to schedule my transplant. My friend and donor Kathy is a nurse and reassured me that we would be in good hands at Weill Cornell/NYP. My kidney transplant took place on July 2nd. I was tested for COVID several times before my transplant and again on the day on my discharge. During my transplant experience I always felt safe and everyone I met, valet staff, cleaning, security, nurses, and doctors made me feel like I was special. With masks, gloves, and extra safety precautions my care was personalized and professional.
Extra precautions were taken by all the staff to make sure I was safe and felt secure. I live about an hour and a half north of NYC and at first I had some fear of going to New York City during the pandemic.
Following my transplant I travel to the kidney clinic weekly. I would highly recommend the Weill Cornell Kidney Transplant Center. I have received the most professional care where every staff member went above and beyond to protect me, make me feel safe, and made me feel like they were all part of my team."
