Dear Saints families,

Happy SaintsGiving! A special thank you to all our families who support and share in our mission through generously giving to our school! It’s been a great day to be a saint, the outpouring of commitment through your participation makes a huge difference for our students and families.

We have now entered the last stretch of the semester and I am so grateful for all of our families who have partnered with us in protecting themselves and others through the holiday season. Thank you for continuing to fill out the questionnaire and following up with us whenever there is a concern in regards to Covid symptoms and exposures. If and when your child is placed in quarantine, we want to remind you of the steps in this process:

Fill out the COVID questionnaire, parent(s) contact Nurse Aertker and AP directly for determining specific dates of quarantine based on symptoms or exposure
Teachers will follow up with parents/students within 24 hours to setup/prepare for student continued learning during quarantine

Advent is here! Advent is truly a beautiful season, a time of waiting in hopeful preparation and joy that Jesus is coming. At Mass this weekend, our pastor reminded us about this time of waiting we are in right now in this current pandemic, waiting with hope for an end or vaccine, we all need Jesus, so this is a perfect time to wait and pray with hopeful faith in Jesus’ promise. “Come Lord Jesus, Come Lord Jesus, we need you.”

During the month of November, our students learned about the virtue of Stewardship, which flows beautifully to the season of Advent. We learned that we practice Stewardship when we take care of others. Our community is so blessed by many people who take care of StJPII. You may have noticed that during Mass, we pray a special intention of thanksgiving for our benefactors. We have encouraged our students to be grateful for those who provide for the needs of our school. To get our students involved in the spirit of SaintsGiving, there will be a one-day House Competition...students in the HOUSE with the most participation (# of gifts or pledges) on SaintsGiving will earn a FREE HOMEWORK PASS! Have children in multiple houses? Don't worry, your family's gift will count toward each house to which your children belong. The winning House will be announced on Wednesday.

Please join us this Friday for our weekly All School Mass at 8:30 a.m. by clicking the link below. The next three weeks, we will be honoring our 3rd graders who celebrated their First Communion. This Friday, we will begin with Mrs. Williamson's 3rd Grade Homeroom class. Mass and recognition will be live-streamed from our All-Saints Chapel. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception - Next Tuesday

Next Tuesday, December 8 is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Please join us for our weekly All School Mass at 8:30 a.m. Students are required to wear Full Dress on this day. We will be honoring our 3rd graders who celebrated their First Communion. Next Tuesday, we will recognize Ms. Morales' 3rd Grade Homeroom class. Mass and recognition will be live-streamed from our All-Saints Chapel. There is no Mass on Friday, December 11.

Virtual Shadow Days: 5th Grade Students

Our 5th graders will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear testimonials straight from our current 6th graders. This will allow them a glimpse of a day in the life of a Middle Schooler from a peer perspective during the school day.

Advent is a Time for Giving from the Heart

The spirit of Giving Tuesday is all about promoting generosity during the holiday season. During this season of Advent, we also encourage you to give to the following worthy causes outside of our community:

NJHS Toy Drive

The National Junior Honor Society is teaming up with the students at Incarnate Word Academy to provide some Christmas cheer to mothers and children at Women's Home, a downtown shelter serving mothers and children in need. Please consider practicing our virtue of the month, stewardship, by sharing what you have with those less fortunate. We are collecting new toys for children of all ages. Donation bins will be available in the hallways at school from November 18 -December 3. Thank you for helping NJHS to bring Christmas joy to others.

St. Jerome School

Saint Jerome School is our school's prayer partner for the 2020-2021 school year. They pray for us, and we pray for them each day. A member of St. Jerome's staff recently had a family emergency and is in dire need of financial assistance. We would like each student to participate in prayer and service by contributing $5 to help this family in critical need. Students are encouraged to earn the money by doing some extra chores or giving from their own savings. Contributions will be collected on Dec. 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. We will pray a decade of the rosary that morning before Mass for Mary's intercession in this situation.

Thy Yen Tong (8th-grader) auditioned for the Texas Music Educators Association Region 23 Middle School Orchestra on violin this past week. She was selected for the top orchestra in the region, placing 14th out of 208 who auditioned! Quite a feat for a violinist who happens to be first chair clarinet in the StJPII Band!

Athletics

Elementary and Middle School Athletics

The last few weeks have continued to be challenging in the world of Athletics! We do have some good news in that we have decided to put in place a 3v3 type of basketball clinic for 5^th through 8^th grade boys and girls that want to play basketball. The clinics will be offered to anyone interested in playing “pick up” basketball and will be monitored by our basketball Coaches and Coach Hewitt. Safety protocol will continue to be mandated and we ask that parents do not attend since we are still a closed campus. As we try to put in place a schedule we have been able to at least secure the following days/dates and I will list them on the Athletic calendar. Please remember to click on the event on the calendar so you can view all necessary information as well as check for any changes or updates! The Basketball 3v3 clinics will be FREE, we do however need for you to email Coach Hewitt the days your child will attend to help with organizing the teams. We will utilize both the BAC and the Pavilion.

Starting Monday Nov 30 through Thursday December 17, except for December 10 we will not have any clinics that day:
Monday and Wednesday 5th & 6th grade Boys and Girls 3;30-5:00
Tuesday and Thursday 7th & 8th grade Boys and Girls 3:30-5:00

Children may report directly to the gym at dismissal to get changed into appropriate attire. Please make sure you have your physical on file as well! And don’t forget your water bottle!

In Elementary athletics, Coach Dominic Amorosa, Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at Strake Jesuit, has offered to come to our campus and run 3 clinics for 3rd & 4th grade boys. With that said we must remind you that we are still a closed campus so we cannot invite parents to attend theses clinics. Listed below are the camp dates as well as a sign-up page that you must complete if your son will attend, Hopefully after Christmas we will be able to offer additional skills clinics for more elementary grade levels.
