Keeping our supporters healthy and thriving is our top priority at the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation and we are confident that this is important to you as well. As we navigate COVID-19 and its effect on community events and in-person fundraisers, some On-Ice Celebrations may be impacted. We will communicate any changes to Celebration plans on an event-by-event basis with all participants, donors, and ticket holders via email. Meet Our Board Ambassador Katia Gordeeva

We are honored that 2x Olympic Pair Skating Champion, 4x World Champion, 3x European and National Champion Katia Gordeeva has added Board Ambassador to her credentials. Throughout her accomplished career, Katia has overcome trials and pursued victories as we watched her life and career unfold on the ice. As a Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ Board Ambassador, she continues to honor those she loves who have been affected by cancer. "My grandmother died of cancer. Back then in Russia in 1988, we didn't have enough progressive medicine and methods to treat cancer. I am sure if treated today she would have been a survivor. I hear stories about cancer sickness everyday. We still have funding needs in cancer research and this is why I am serving in my role through Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ to help make a difference." Our Board Ambassadors support our mission and bring more awareness to Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™. Making a Splash in Lake Placid

Last month, our 247 participating fundraisers in Lake Placid reached out to their networks and asked them to support cancer research through Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer TM Lake Placid. Because of that ask, 903 different donors responded, resulting in an incredible $72,033 raised to-date . These critical funds will help us fund cancer research across the country, and locally, 40% of the net proceeds will benefit Adirondack Health . To celebrate their efforts, participants came together on the Olympic Oval and skated a Frozen 5k to honor those they know impacted by cancer.

Our Founder, Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton attended and was joined by most of his 1980 Olympic teammates, some as fundraisers themselves! Many people know Scott's cancer story, but may not realize he lost his mom Dorothy to cancer. "Most of the [1980 Olympic] team has met my mom at some point, and she was the center of my universe. I thought if I could raise money through skating or whatever to find a cure for her cancer that I would know why I was born. Then 20 years after I lost her, I was diagnosed with cancer and it was then that I realized everything that was missing in the cancer community and how dysfunctional it was and so I sort of went from fundraiser to activist." -Scott Hamilton
