First Day of the 2020-2021 School Year at Cedar Hill Prep!
Welcome back! First day of blended learning was a huge success as students in-person and virtual began the new school year on September 10th.
Preschool - Kindergarten News
Welcome to Preschool!
Preschool welcomed their new Preschool students for the 2020-2021 school year. With apprehension in their eyes, backpacks stuffed with supplies, and masks on, students were ready for a wonderful Preschool year. Each day going forward brought more fun, friendships, playing, singing, and laughter. The students were happy to come to school and greet their new friends who they will play and learn with at a distance.
Apple Galore in Preschool!

Apple season is upon us! The children tasted red, green and yellow apples. Each child then decided which apple was their favorite. Using three apple trees on a poster, the children placed their favorite color apple on the matching colored tree. After all the apples were graphed, the preschoolers realized that there was a tie between yellow and green for first place! Tasting apples turned into using our creativity to make torn paper apples, apple men, and apple stamping. Did you know that there is a star in the center of the apple? Preschoolers found out after listening to the story, The Little Red House. If you cut an apple horizontally, you will see the star.
Apples Galore in Preschool

Preschoolers identified and learned that mixing colors is so magical! Each day the children wore a designated color. Our explorations found students mixing red and yellow paint to make the color orange; blue and yellow paint to make green; and red and blue paint to make purple. As the class chanted, “Magic, magic...” the new colors were revealed!

Pre-Kindergarten Learns the Meaning of the Number “0”

The Pre-Kindergarten children started their math program with learning about the number 0. The children learned to print the number 0 and spell the word zero. They learned that 0 means nothing. The children really enjoyed tearing small pieces of paper with their hands. This is a great exercise to help build fine motor skills. Once the paper was torn, the children glued the pieces into a number 0 they had drawn.
Kindergarten Students Learn All About Johnny Appleseed!

The Kindergarten children learned all about a real boy named Johnny Appleseed who lived over 200 years ago. He loved eating apples, planting apple seeds, and growing apple trees, leaving behind thousands and thousands of apple trees all across America. Because of him, people always had fresh fruit to eat, and the land grew more beautiful! The Kindergarten children made a pot to wear as a hat... just like Johnny Appleseed!

First Grade Scientists

First graders are learning all about being a scientist. They have learned that scientists observe things around them using their five senses. The students enjoyed an outdoor class where they observed leaves and flowers so they could compare them according to their color, shape and size.

Grade 2 Build Community

Despite the physical distance between our in-class and virtual learners, 2nd graders happily celebrated their classmates' birthdays via Zoom. Parents joined us virtually and read a favorite book with their children as the whole class listened and enjoyed the special books. Those celebrating even got to blow out candles on a virtual cake! Happy birthday to Colton, Quinton, and Ezra!
Grade 3 'All About Me' Pennant

Third graders were welcomed into their classroom both in-person and virtually. The students enjoyed activities to get to know each other. They each wrote and colored an 'All About Me' pennant which they shared with their classmates. They also wrote a letter to themselves which was then sealed and will be opened during the last week of school. It was a very exciting first week of school for the third graders as they were ushered into third grade traditions.
Grade 4 Welcomes the 2020-2021 School Year!

In Grade 4, the new school year has been bustling with excitement and activity! The students are amazed at how much they can accomplish each day…and how quickly they have adapted to their new grade.
Whether students are working virtually or on campus, they have been putting forth a tremendous effort!
Grade 4 wishes all a great 2020-2021 school year!
Guess Who???

As part of their Social Studies unit about the roles of various social scientists (archaeologists, geographers, political scientists, economists, and historians), Grade 4 students have once again learned the essence of cooperative learning/research. Because of their collective efforts, social scientists have been able to further understand the ancient community of Cahokia. As a culminating activity, students collected various pictures that are representative of each social scientist. They used these photos to challenge their classmates to a game of Guess Who??? Click to See More Images

Grade 4 Recess

For the Grade 4 students who are on-campus, Recess is a highlight of each day as they get an opportunity to play outdoors and enjoy games of Four Square, Basketball, and GaGa ball.
