Notes from Pastor AJ

Dear Beluvs ...

We have lots of exciting news to share with you about our Fall 2020 Sunday Morning Experience.

First, you will notice this Sunday that our worship service will have a new flow and feel. The service will feature more music and a larger celebratory welcoming feel to its format. It will also be the first week of using Soul Matters our monthly theme based program. Soul Matters is a subscription service that will assist in guiding us through Sunday Morning Worship and Learning Hour for our Children, Youth, Adults. As we move forward we will also be making Soul Matters available to all of our small groups and committees.

Second, the LifeSpan team would like to propose that starting in October we introduce a new Sunday Morning Experience schedule and flow.

9:30 Children’s  LifeSpan (K-5)
10:15 Gathering Time
10:30 Service (children leave by 11:00 and are done for the day)
11:30 Candles of Community
11:45 Youth (6-12) and Adult LifeSpan or Fellowship or Meeting etc.
12:30 End of Day

We are of the hopes that this will help us to provide us an opportunity to better serve our littles and to center them more in our Sunday Morning Experience. Our current flow asks our children to attend first half of Worship and then come back for Learning Hour and also “bumps” children’s programming when we have larger congregational events such as congregational meetings. Our new (proposed) flow will ask our littles to attend Learning Hour and then be dismissed from worship midway through. They would be finished at approximately 11:00 am. Additionally, this would prevent conflicts with adult programming.

Please remember that I continue to be available for pastoral care, conversations, and connections. I am available to chat, catch up etc. Please continue to schedule appointments, and calls with me. You can schedule a time via my Google Calendar or call/text me at 720-549-0531.

In Service,

From the Committee on Shared Ministry …

The CoSM and others will be looking for feedback for a possible change in the starting time for our Sunday services. It has been suggested that a start time of 10:30 am instead of 10:00 am would allow the LifeSpan program to be much more coordinated for our children. We will be available for feedback after service and at the COSM meeting on Monday September 14.

Please read AJ’s letter in this newsletter to get more information and find out where to give your input.
In Faith,

From the Board ...

Greetings!

Our Fall programming for Services, Learning Hour, and Activities began this month. I am hopeful that those of you we have missed at our virtual services, fellowship and meetings will join us. There are lots of activities and opportunities to connect!

The new Budget year is well on its way (since July 1, 2020). Finances are looking good at this point. So thank you for your pledges and contributions. The Board will soon inform the Committee Chairs about the specific dollars in your committee's budget. If those of you who are Committee Chairs have questions, please let me know.

Last week on September 1, 2020 the Board, COSM, Justice League MUUved to Action group and other members of the congregation met to discuss Restoration and Reparations recommendations for PrairieUU. Our meeting generated many thoughtful and doable actions. Read the discussion and recommendations here.

Both the Finance Committee and the Board meet on September 16, 2020. Please join us if you wish. The minutes of the last Board meeting can be viewed here. Please note that the Board elected Kim Murray as Board Secretary! On September 16th the Board will be discussing our 2020/2021 goals, sharing an update on Pastor AJ's contract for 2020/2021, and clarifying the Board's role in relationship to standing committees, defined in the Bylaws. The bylaws have now been revised based on the congregation's actions at the Spring Congregational Meeting. See them here.

There is lots of information about the Auction, Let's Party Together/Apart in newsletters, emails and postcards.  I hope you are reading them, making a bid, offering an Auction item and saving the date for the GALA. (November 14, 2020). The income helps balance our budget! So let's make it successful!

Our next Board meeting is on September 16, 2020.  There will be an opportunity to discuss the new Sunday Morning Experience schedule starting in October. Join us if you wish!

In Covenant,

Vivian LittlefieldPresident
Finance Committee …

On Wednesday, September 16 at 6:00 PM, the Finance Committee will meet on Google Meet here. The meeting will be on the Prairie Calendar. Items that will be discussed include the current status of Prairie's finances and ways that Prairie might raise extra funds.

Any PrairieUU member who might wish to join the Committee should contact Clark Huff.

LifeSpan Education

Hello, PrairieUU!

Your LifeSpan volunteers, staff, and I are busily preparing for this year's Lifespan program! We will be using Soul Matters materials to integrate worship and religious education this year in order to create a whole-congregation, intergenerational LifeSpan experience.

In this time of Covid, it is especially important that we create as many opportunities for meaningful connection as possible. To that end, we hope that you will consider volunteering for LifeSpan, even if you've never tried before! NO GLITTER CLEAN-UP involved!

Soul Matters includes easy-to-follow, fun curriculum that your LifeSpan Team stands ready to support you in leading with instruction and materials. Please join us during the learning hour on 9/13 at 11:45 am for an orientation to the Soul Matters curriculum and opportunities - one-time or ongoing - to become involved in faith formation at PrairieUU!

To volunteer or for questions, please let me know.

Jen Simon (they/them, she/her)
Lifespan Education Coordinator

If you have questions regarding Breeze and the Google Suite I am available both Sunday morning and at Tech Talk on Tuesday afternoon.

If you are having problems viewing the Sunday morning worship service - check your download internet speed. The best speed to view the service is a download speed of 100 mpbs. You can check your download and upload speed by using a speed test such as www.speedtest.net.

I am very happy as the Administrator at PrairieUU for 20 hours a week, you all are wonderful to work with and have been very welcoming to me, it will be a year in December! Thank you for being such a great congregation.

Recently I started a position at First Unitarian Society of Denver as their Stewardship Coordinator for 15 hours a week. They have the same database, Breeze, as we do at PrairieUU and there is a lot of crossover in my duties that will be beneficial to both congregations. I look forward to continuing my work at PrairieUU and First Unitarian.

My office hours for other general church business are Monday through Thursday 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. We can make an appointment outside of those hours as needed.

Sincerely,
Ministry Opportunities
