Special Bulletin: COVID-19 UPDATE

Hillsborough Township has issued an Emergency Declaration to further protect, support and offer services to the community during COVID-19 outbreak
  • The HTPD is authorized to close any street deemed necessary to allow for public safety and access may be restricted to any Township building or the actual boundaries of the Township.

  • The Municipal Building will be closed to the public and access may be restricted to essential personnel.

  • Food pantry access and Senior Citizen busing for essential services will be provided for doctors’ appointments and emergency pharmacy/grocery.

  • Recreation activities and programs will be suspended indefinitely until further notice.

  • Only essential meetings may be held until further notice.
Governor Phil Murphy's Executive Order No. 104 mandates that certain businesses close or have limited hours.   • The Municipal Building will be closed to the public until further notice however many municipal services will be available on-line or via the telephone. Please refer to our Township website "How Do I" section for self-services functions like on-line payments, forms and contact phone numbers for departments. 

  • Building Department will not have extended hours until further notice and they have implemented a permit pick-up process while the Municipal Complex is closed.

  • Department of Public Works is closed to the general public.

  • The 1st Annual Hillsborough Township Litter Awareness and Clean-up Day scheduled for Saturday, March 21st, has been cancelled. 

  • The Fire Safety Department has suspended business inspections and smoke alarm certification inspections at this time. There is an affidavit for smoke alarm inspections available so that home closings can continue.


  • Municipal Court is rescheduling court sessions scheduled from March 16th to March 27th. Please contact the court at 908-369-3532 to determine your new court date.

  • All Senior Programs have been cancelled until further notice. Senior busing will be available for doctors appointments. Seniors should contact our Social Services Department if they need assistance in obtaining items from the grocery store or prescriptions.

  • As of Wednesday, March 18th, Somerset County Recycling Center will be closed to the general public and curbside pick-up will be discontinued until further notice to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
  • Municipal Utilities Authority office is closed until further notice.

  • The Library System will be closed to the public. Until further notice, DO NOT place books in the outside dropbox. Keep the loaned material(s) as it will be automatically renewed so you will not incur any fines. For more information, visit the SCLSNJ website.

  • Hillsborough Township schools remain closed. Click here to see the March 13th communication sent by Dr. Antunes, Acting Superintendent of Schools.
Hillsborough Health Department Recommends to continue preventative measure, such as hand washing, covering coughs, stay home when you're sick and further social distancing as explained by the CDC.

Another recommendation for private sports programs. We advise you to cancel, just as the schools and the recreation department have done.

The Hillsborough Health Department continues to monitor information about the Coronavirus and will update the public as needed on the Township website.
