Greetings!

My name is John Naylor and I have been an entrepreneur since 1980 starting with the advent of Western Distribution Services. In May of this year, the company was acquired by Lineage Logistics, the largest 3PL Cold Storage in the world. With that, I assumed the duties of Regional Vice President Pacific Northwest for Lineage Logistics. I am also your 2019 Board Chair of the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce...

Success Foundation Spotlight
This past summer, our Success Foundation's 2019 Student Program included six students from the Highline School District. The ten-week program was broken into two parts: the NASA ANGLeS Challenge and the Chamber's first Window into Work Program .
NASA ANGLeS Challenge

As participants in the Apollo Next Giant Leap Student (ANGLeS) Challenge, our students learned how to build, program, and drive a robot of their own design as well as fly a UAV. After many weeks of practice, they then competed at the regional competition at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Window into Work

During our Window into Work weeks, our students learned how to apply the skills they learned in a workforce setting. Site visits included Embry Riddle Aeronautical University to learn about flying drones professionally, ANEW to explore trade career options, and Boeing to tour their Renton facility.
Thank you to all of our members, volunteers, and donors
who make this program possible!

Restoring Urban Forests in
Airport Communities
Volunteers “got their green on” in the City of SeaTac recently as part of a series of planting events sponsored by the Port of Seattle. Led by non-profit Forterra and in close coordination with the City of SeaTac, 25 volunteers planted over 200 native trees, shrubs, and ground cover along the shore of Angle Lake. A second planting event was held at the Community Center next to Dottie Harper Park in Burien.

These events are a turning point in a multi-year collaborative project to involve communities near the airport (Burien, Des Moines, and SeaTac) in Forterra’s Green City Partnerships program. The program was created with the philosophy that healthy forested parks and green spaces have the power to strengthen neighborhoods, provide safe access to nature, and offer many valuable benefits to the environment.

Volunteers planted native trees, shrubs, and ground cover along the shore of Angle Lake in the city of SeaTac as part Forterra’s Green City Partnerships program, sponsored by the Port of Seattle.
The Port’s Airport Community Ecology (ACE) funding has helped to bring Burien, Des Moines, and SeaTac into the network. Forterra has collected feedback from 300 community members and is working with all three cities on Urban Forest Enhancement Plans that include a Tree Canopy Cover Assessment, a Forest Health Assessment, and findings from extensive community engagement activities in 2018. The Plans also provide a path forward to equitably increase canopy cover, preserve existing resources, and implement best practices for stewardship and restoration.

Volunteer to get your hands dirty and improve the parks in Des Moines on Oct. 19 from 9 a.m.–12 p.m at Kiddie Park.
