May 6, 2021
Dear Lovejoy Families,

I feel like May is already flying by. Our students are still working hard, and I love how they are showing what they know. Our Kindergarten - 2nd graders are working on their end-of-year assessments, and our 3rd & 4th graders will have an opportunity to shine over the next two weeks. As a reminder, our 4th graders will test on May 11th and 12th, and our 3rd graders will test on May 18th and 19th. I know all students are well prepared and will be amazing!

Here's an update on Rezoning.
Utilizing the input from our LES families, the district has created a draft of elementary attendance zones. This effort to evenly balance the numbers of K-4 students based on enrollment relative to building capacity also takes into account creating attendance zones with long-term viability, including future projected enrollment.

We would like to extend an invitation to all of our elementary families to virtually attend a community update on elementary attendance zones this Thursday, May 6, at 6 pm. We will share an updated draft of the elementary attendance zones based on the work with the LES families and provide a process to gather comments and feedback on the presented draft. The LISD Administration will be presenting a recommendation to the School Board for their approval during the May 10 board meeting.

Please join us on Thursday to review the information and provide your comments and feedback prior to the May 10 meeting.

LES Information
LES Artists Featured @ the LHS Art Gallery: May 13th from 5:00 - 8:00pm
On May 13th from 5:00pm until 8:00pm in the Lovejoy High School Art Gallery, Ms. Rivera will be hosting a solo art opening that showcases the work from 93 different Lovejoy Elementary artists. Parents of the featured artists will be contacted directly, however, all parents, family, and staff are welcome and encouraged to view the incredible works created by our young artists over the second half of the school year. Among those features, we have 18 Kindergarteners, 16 First Graders, 22 Second Graders, 18 Third Graders, and 18 4th Graders. This is a come-and-go event! We hope to see you there!
Super Skills Day: May 21st
Super Skills Day is an event where all students have the opportunity to show off their athletic skills. This year’s event is slated for Friday, May 21st. The primary students (K-2nd) participate from 8:45-11:55am and the intermediate
(3rd and 4th) from 12:30-2:50pm.

Students will progress through a variety of skill events, rotating every 15 minutes to the next period. We will allow 10 minutes before progressing to the next period for students to stop at a sanitize station to sanitize hands. Some of the events include Bowling, Striker Ball, Dribble Relay, and a few traditional events like 3 Legged Race and Sack Race. We ask that students come properly attired in shorts or sweatpants with running shoes, not spiked track style. Please be sure your child brings a water bottle that can be refilled several times and labeled with his/her name. Sunscreen would be a good idea as well.
Parents are invited to join in the activities as enthusiastic spectators or volunteer to help one of the Sessions (Morning or Afternoon). If you would like to volunteer to help, please click the links: K-2 Volunteers, 3-4 Volunteers
to sign up. (Make sure you complete the online background check). Events will take place on the playground and in the gym.

Adopt a 2021 Lovejoy Senior Community Project
Brooklyn Lloyd is a junior at LHS who is a part of the Varsity Volleyball Team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and PALS. For her senior project, she is doing an "Adopt a 2021 Lovejoy Senior" Facebook page where each senior posts a bio about them and a person in our community chooses to "adopt" and spoil them with gifts. As we all know, these seniors have gone through so much with COVID-19 and have missed out on a normal senior year. So, what better way than to show them love than with tangible gifts they can remember forever. As a community, we can make light of this unexpected situation by showering them with our Love and Joy! To be apart of this, you can join our Facebook group page “Adopt a 2021 LOVEJOY Senior” and adopt a senior you feel led to bless. Spread the word and let all the senior parents know about this so they can add their senior's bio so they can get adopted! Also, check it out if you would like to adopt any of the seniors so we don't leave any behind. However, if you do not have Facebook, no problem! Just contact Brooklyn Lloyd at lloyd_brooklyn@lovejoyisd.com and she can help you! Let's show these kids some LOVE!

Athletic Tickets
There has been some confusion in regards to ticket sales, as in the past all students and staff have been allowed in free to all athletic contests (with school ID).  Due to UIL covid-19 attendance capacity limitation regulations, we are forced to charge for entrance to all athletic contests for all staff and students. The tickets sales assist the athletic department in keeping with the capacity limitations required of us. If you have questions, please contact the Lovejoy Athletic Office.
