Key to the City presented to hometown heroes
Mayor Vince Lago together with Commissioner Kirk Menendez presented Grammy Award-winners Gloria and Emilio Estefan a key to the city in recognition of their many contributions to the community. "On Your Feet!", based on the lives of this husband-and-wife team opened on Broadway and is now playing at the Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre through Sunday, March 6.

"We are thrilled that the story of the Estefans has come to Coral Gables," said Mayor Lago.
New and improved

Good news! If your recycling is picked up on Monday, you will be receiving your new recycling bin today. The new 22-gallon, blue bins have lids. Each single-family residence will receive a bin in the upcoming weeks. You can continue to use your red containers or bring them to the city’s Recycling Drive-Thru Event on Saturday, April 23.

Interested in obtaining a cultural grant? Nonprofit cultural organizations are invited to attend a Cultural Grants workshop with members of the Cultural Development Board on Thursday, March 3 at 2 p.m. Join to learn more about the process of applying for a grant for the upcoming fiscal year. Final weeks of "Blue Night"

Catch Kiki Smith’s "Blue Night" public art installation on Giralda Plaza on display through Feb. 28. Forty-two animal constellations inspired by late 17th century drawings are rendered on transparent blue plexiglass with holographic stars. Find all 42 animals and have fun with the augmented reality component. Look for the QR code on the Plaza.
Keeping our city green

Commissioner Anderson recently donated a live oak tree to the city that has been planted on the 500 block of Palermo Ave. replacing a dead tree in front of a resident’s home.

“We thank David Bryan and his team at Tropical Falls for volunteering their time and talent to transport and plant the tree,” said Commissioner Anderson. “Our residents love our city’s tree canopy, and we sincerely appreciate their generosity in helping us keep our city green and beautiful."

The future of a historic property

The Community Recreation Department, tasked with taking over the management of the Coral Gables Golf and Country Club, presented a conceptual plan at yesterday’s Commission meeting. The plan identifies the long-range vision for the facility. In addition to the presentation, a video was shown illustrating the historical significance of the building, which was the first public building and facility in the City Beautiful. Based on yesterday's approval by the Commission, the Department will now engage in employee recruitment to provide a seamless transition when the city assumes the management of the building.
