READy, Set, Go Miami! Literacy Initiative Looking for Workshop Hosts *
|
|
The READy, Set, Go Miami! literacy blitz launches in March, giving community partners and individuals all across the Miami-Dade County an opportunity to register to become a host site of a READy, Set, Go Miami! workshop. The initiative is a month-long community collaboration coordinated by the Miami-Dade Grade Level Reading Campaign (MDGLR) to 1) promote simple early literacy activities in daily routines at home, and 2) highlight the many early childhood resources in our Miami-Dade community that are available year-round!

CAT Observations for Youth Development, Parenting Programs Starting *

Starting this month, The Children's Trust will begin scheduling Content Area Team (CAT) observations for Youth Development K-5, 6-12 and Parenting Programs. As in the past, providers will need to submit their most recent schedules. Trust Program Managers will be reaching out this week with instructions and the link for submission of schedules. We look forward to visiting your program.

Communities of Practice- Join a community where members support one another, share best practices and deepen their knowledge. All of the following CoPs are currently being offered virtually and are appropriate for direct service providers and supervisors of Parenting Programs. Parent and Provider Stressors & Barriers - In this CoP, we will discuss the stressors and barriers that both you as a provider, and the families you serve, face. Upcoming Differentiated Literacy Instruction Training

Differentiated Literacy Instruction February 22, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. In this required training, certified teachers learn how to use reading assessment data from the ORF and Maze to identify struggling readers and develop reading intervention plans unique to each student. Certified teachers will also learn how to create a plan of action to differentiate reading instruction. Please register for this training on Trust Academy. Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Part 1 - You hear a lot about it, but do you really know what Autism Spectrum Disorder is, and the different ways it appears in different children and youth? Learn the facts, and how to recognize and accommodate those with sensory sensitivities, foster social competence, address bullying, and ensure a safe environment. This online course is a pre-requisite for Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders Part 2.

- High school students residing in Broward or Miami-Dade County, Florida, and are currently between the ages of 15-18 (Preference is for sophomores or juniors)

NBCUniversal's Project Innovation Grants Return for Nonprofits
|
The Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation and NBCUniversal Local announced the return of their “Project Innovation” competitive grant challenge in 11 markets, including Miami-Fort Lauderdale (WTVJ, WSCV).
For 2022, $3.475 million in grants to eligible nonprofits in the following four grant categories:
- Community Engagement: Programs that enable individuals to engage and volunteer in their communities.
- Culture of Inclusion: Programs that encourage equitable access, opportunities, and resources for traditionally underrepresented communities.
- Next Generation Storytellers: Programs that promote access and develop pathways for emerging talent, diverse voices, and underrepresented youth to explore careers in news, entertainment, sports and the arts.
- Youth Education and Empowerment: In-school and out-of-school programs that equip youth with the tools they need to succeed, including STEM/ STEAM education and youth entrepreneurship.
Key grant eligibility requirements: 501(c)(3) nonprofit’s headquarters and/or the program for which the organization is applying must be located in a participating market, service the market they operate from, have had total expenses of more than $100,000 (defined by the organizations most recent 990 IRS filing), and its programs must help to resolve everyday community issues in any of the four grant categories.

The Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH) provides mental health services including Individual/family therapy and psychiatry for children and adolescents in Miami-Dade County. The institute accepts most Medicaid HMO’s and has funding for children of low-income families who do not have insurance. ICFH also provides individual/family therapy and psychiatry services for adults who have Medicaid.
