Sixth Sunday of Easter
May 9, 2021
Mother's Day Prayer

Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, pray for all mothers,
so that they will be able to fulfill their maternal responsibilities.
Help them to be lovers and nurturers of all human life from the moment of conception until natural death, all the while being
examples for their own children.
Pray for their children, so that they, too, will be faithful followers of Your Son.
We offer these prayers in Jesus’ name, in union with the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen

NOTES FROM PARISHIONERS

First Communion was such a beautiful day and the service was so nice. We loved how much the kids were involved. Thank you for all you have done for the First Communions to take place in this year of uncertainties. We are so thankful to be a part of the St. Martin community. -Shari Oldfield

So great the mobile clinic for Covid is coming to St. Martins. -Suzanne Cisneros

Just wanted to say hello and thank you for doing such a good job especially  throughout this last year with the Covid crisis. -Suzie and Ellis (our little black doggie).

Sunday was great. Thank you for the wonderful service for all the kids receiving First Communion that day. My daughter, Elise was excited, and it was a special day for all. -Chris Ambrose
PEACE & SOCIAL JUSTICE
"Part of understanding the notion of Justice is to recognize the disproportions among which we live. . . . It takes an awful lot of living with the powerless to really understand what it is like to be powerless, to have your voice, thoughts, ideas and concerns count for very little. We, who have been given much, whose voices can be heard, have a great duty and responsibility to make our voices heard with absolute integrity for those who are powerless." —John O'Donohue
LECTORS & USHERS NEEDED

Lectors proclaim the living Word of God at Mass. Ushers/Greeters are men, women & youth greeting the people at church, seating them, helping with the collection, and helping keep the church safe and in order. If you are able to help, please click HERE to sign up.
Thank you and God Bless!

FAMILY REFLECTION AND ACTION

May 9, 2021 6th Sunday of Easter
Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48 •
1 John 4:7-10 • John 15:9-17

“I no longer call you slaves….I have called you friends…” —John 15:15

Can you imagine God calling us a friend? Think about your best friend at school or work. What are some things you would do for him or her, even if you were tired, had a lot of other work to do, or had the opportunity to doing something with someone else? You would do whatever you could to make your friend happy, wouldn’t you? Even very difficult things. The more we come to know and love Jesus, the sooner we will consider HIM our best friend. He told us and showed us how much he loves us—he even died for us. Now it’s our turn to show him how much we love him. Jesus told us how to do that. He said, “Love one another.”

PRAYER: Jesus, help me to put you first in my life. Help me to remember that you are my best friend. Help me to love all people as you taught us.

REFLECTION: What can you do to show Jesus that he is your best friend?

FROM THE BISHOP'S OFFICE:
Statement on guilty verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin: "The Church affirms the dignity of all human life as given to us by God from conception until natural death. As two of my brother bishops stated yesterday, “[the] death of George Floyd highlighted and amplified the deep need to see the sacredness in all people, but especially those who have been historically oppressed. Whatever the stage of human life, it not only matters, it is sacred.” George Floyd’s life mattered. While the dismantling of systemic racism is a long road, it begins with a conversion of heart that acknowledges the humanity of all persons, particularly those who are different from us." Bishop Oscar Cantú, Diocese of San José

Covid-19 Vaccines Explained Ethics
As a faith community concerned about the sanctity of human life, the Diocese of San Jose encourages everyone to strongly consider getting vaccinated, after consulting their physicians or health care providers, for the sake of their own health and the common good of our community. The vaccines are safe and free. Health insurance and immigration status will not affect your eligibility. You can learn more about the moral and ethical issues regarding COVID-19 vaccines and why they have been deemed morally acceptable by the Church by visiting:  https://www.dsj.org/covid19vaccines/
