Eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine has been opened to anyone 16 years of age and older. Pfizer is currently PENDING FDA approval for students 12-15 years of age, and is expected to be approved early next week. As schools continue to take incremental steps toward normalcy, the health departments have regularly indicated that vaccinations are a means toward minimizing the impact of COVID disruptions for school activities and operations. As such, we have been recently urged by the health department to organize a vaccination clinic for our students.

We have partnered once again with Jewel-Osco to organize a vaccination clinic next Friday, May 14th. This clinic is just for WCCHS students. We are taking

Lily Cuka Named April Student of the Month

West Chicago Community High School in Community High School District 94 has selected Lily Cuka of West Chicago as Student of the Month for April 2021. Cuka was chosen for her academic focus, school involvement, and peer leadership.

A senior, Cuka has been on High Honor Roll or Honor Roll her entire high school career, earning a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of 5.196. She is a member of National Honor Society and the German Honor Society. Cuka is currently enrolled in three AP courses.

New School Board Members Seated

Two new members of the Board of Education were seated at a special meeting on May 4.

Penny Munoz was elected for a 2-year term. A graduate of West Chicago Community High School, Penny is a parent of a student currently in the District. She is employed as a Family Liaison at Pioneer School in West Chicago Elementary School District 33.

Jovany Zuniga was elected for a 4-year term. A graduate of West Chicago Community High School, Jovany is a Latinos in Action teacher at Leman Middle School in West Chicago Elementary School District 33.

The new board members will serve under the leadership of Bob Brown, President, Lynn Casey-Maher, Vice President, and Rich Nagel, Secretary. Other board members include Kathe Doremus and Gary Saake.
Summer School Information and Registration

West Chicago Community High School Summer school will run 6/17-7/2 this summer. Students can take one or two classes. If they select 2, then at least one has to be taken independently. We will run classes in person if there are enough students who sign up. Summer school will cost $50 per session.

Summer Driver's Education
Registration Ends May 18

Community High School District 94 will offer a summer Driver Education Program (IN-PERSON) beginning Wednesday June 16th, 2021 and ending Wednesday July 7, 2021. The classroom portion will meet Monday – Friday each week (7:00am-9:00am or 9:15am-11:15am). In addition, the driving and simulating times (BTW) will alternate every other day.

Final Exam Update

WCCHS students have been given the opportunity to OPT OUT of taking Final Exams. An A, B, or a C in a course gives students the OPT OUT option.

Notice of Special Education Public Meeting

The public meeting on May 20, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., conducted by Community High School District 94, will take place via phone or video conference. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the district's plans for providing special education

Graduation June 3 at NIU

Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021 will be held at Husky Stadium at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021.

Cap, gown & ticket pickup for students will be held during lunch hours on May 24 & 25. Each graduate will be given 7 tickets; no extra tickets will be available.

Graduation will be live-streamed for those unable to attend.

ESL II Student Photography Exhibit at Gallery 200

Experience the photography of West Chicago Community High School ESL II students at an exhibition at Gallery 200, 103 W. Washington St., West Chicago. The exhibit is open during the months of May and June on Fridays from 2 - 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The exhibit is free.

Teenagers are divided. It’s the nature of adolescence. Divided between obligation and obliviousness, adventure and anxiety, nostalgia and the not quite yet. 

Immigrants are divided too. It’s the nature of leaving one’s home. Divided between ritual and romantic, comfort and craving, nostalgia and the not quite yet. 

That’s what this photography exhibit is all about; Photographs of lives in between, and the photographers who live in those places.
FCCLA Can and Diaper Drive Next Week

The WCCHS Family, Career and Community Leaders of America can drive will be from Mon 5/10 through Fri 5/14 in commons from 9-9:40 am.

Cans will be donated to 123 Fremont Street right here in West Chicago, serving our students and their families; which is very needed due to the impact of COVID on the community. 

Students can make up a missed PE class by donating 5 cans of food. Other teachers may be offering incentives as well.

Volunteers Needed for Exterior Home Repairs

West Chicago has been selected to be a part of DuPage Habitat for Humanity's first Community Cares Week.

Community Cares Week brings together volunteers to do exterior home repair projects for selected residents. DuPage Habitat has selected low income homes that qualified for exterior repair projects.

Volunteers are needed during the week of May 25 - May 29.

Free Legal Consultations

WeGo Together for Kids and the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Services are partnering to provide free legal consultations for West Chicago families.

Participants will receive an hour long consultation with an attorney on the following topics: Immigration Law, Criminal Law, Housing Law and Family Law. Consultations will take place virtually either over the phone or on Zoom.
