LISTEN UP!

If you think it is easy being a pit bull with mostly flippy doodle ears and holding one like this long enough for pop to snap a picture, you are dreaming.

And if you are a careful reader (unlike David Lang, just saying), you noticed the above sentence has red and green letters. That makes me think of . . . hmm . . . CHRISTMAS!

See how I did that?

It is also "that" time of year again, when Ms. Zoe drinks egg nog and dudes me all up with fake antlers. You doubt me? Then how do you account for this?

I try to make the best of it. We have deer in our backyard, so I thought I would slip out and try to sneak up on one, seeing as how I have antlers and all. It worked about well as Mark Wade's latest escapade when he tried to drop trained raccoons down our chimney to raid pop's library. We had a fire going. Didn't turn out well. He is a Raven's fan, so his IQ is about the same as the temperature on a winter California day.

Which means coldish, which reminds me of Christmas. See how I did that?

My only consolation is that Ms. Zoe did it to Roscoe, too, so I don't feel quite as bad.
You doubt me? Then how do you account for this?

Riley usually escaped the antler treatment. In the picture above you can see her looking on while I am sneaking up on her under the tree. She is pretending not to notice. I miss my buddy. It will be our first Christmas without her.

Which circles me back around to the upcoming Twelve Days of Christmas specials. Instead of a partridge in a pear tree (do you youngsters even know what I am talking about?) it is a pit bull in fake antlers--and lots of book specials all spread out over a dozen days.

SO...From December 1-12, make sure you hit our website daily at www.savasbeatie.com, check out our Facebook page each day, check your Twitter account, SHARE the posts (you could actually earn SB bucks for that), and much more. Look right below for the first offer--good for today only!

What do I want for Christmas? Well, thanks for asking. Honestly, I have the greatest home in the world, even if Ms. Zoe dresses me in hoodies and antlers. Maybe because she dresses me in hoodies and antlers. But I could always use a box of Milkbones or a chew toy suitable for a pit bull. Just saying. :)

Merry Christmas Woofs from all of us at Savas Beatie. (We still bark Merry Christmas here.)

Miss Kenya

PS: The Packers are tanking, the Vikings are ascendant, and pop is breaking out his special Viking mug and barrel-aged Whiskey Porter beer for the Monday Night Game. He says it is a big deal. SKOL

West Coast Civil War Conference--Recap
What an incredible weekend with even more incredible speakers - Sarah Kay Bierle, Chris Mackowski, David Powell, and our very own, Mr. Savas! The 2019 West Coast Civil War Conference was very successful thanks in part to excellent behind-the-scenes coordination, dynamic presentations, and fabulous attendees.

Enjoy a few of the photos from the weekend. We hope to see you next year!

Ted Savas and Sarah Keeney were eager to help you select a SB title.

Sarah Kay Bierle awaited your questions about her book Call Out the Cadets.

The audience was riveted by Mr. Savas' talk on The War Outside My Window.

Spring 2020 Round Three
Here is Round Three of our sneak peek at what's to come from Savas Beatie.

by Sean Michael Chick
- Few Civil War generals attracted as much debate and controversy as Pierre Gustav Toutant Beauregard. He combined brilliance and charisma with arrogance and histrionics. Sean Michael Chick explores a life of contradictions and dreams unrealized-the first real hero of the Confederacy who sometimes proved to be his own worst enemy.

To Hell or Richmond: The 1862 Peninsula Campaign (ECW)
by Doug Crenshaw and Drew A. Gruber
- In the spring of 1862, George McClellan and his massive army were slowly making their way up the Virginia Peninsula. Their goal: capture the Confederate capital and end the rebellion. This book follows the armies on their trek up the peninsula as the stakes grew enormous, surprises awaited, and the soldiers themselves had only two possible destinations in mind.
by Dwight Sturtevant Hughes
- The USS Monitor became an icon of American industrial ingenuity and strength. She redefined the relationship between men and machines in war. But beforehand, many feared she would not float. The CSS Virginia was a paradigm of Confederate strategy and execution-the brainchild of innovative, dedicated, and courageous men, but the victim of hurried design, untested technology, poor planning and coordination, and a dearth of critical resources. This dramatic story of the two warships unfolds through the accounts of men who lived it.

by Timothy B. Smith
UPDATE: We are currently sold out of this award-winning title, but the demand has been so high that we're going back to press. We are reprinting a limited number of additional hardcovers now which will be available in early 2020. Stay tuned. Based upon years of research and presented in gripping, fast-paced prose, this book captures the high drama and tension of the 1863 horse soldiers in a modern, comprehensive, academic study.
