Monthly Updates and Resources from API-GBV | Domestic Violence Awareness Month!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month!

Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2020 will happen against a backdrop of pandemic, election season, and a worldwide reckoning about racial injustice and inequity. It is our hope that the voices of women, LGBTQ individuals, and communities of color are brought into, and held as central, within the conversation.

"As we make our way through #DVAM2020, we remember that our work does not end until we dismantle white supremacy, until we meet the needs of Black and non-Black survivors of color, until we eradicate domestic violence and violence in all forms."

This DVAM, we are excited to launch a regularly occurring virtual space for AAPI advocates and community members to network, strategize, circulate resources, and share support. We firmly believe that the expertise to do this work lies in the community, and we are privileged to be in a position where we can create platforms and opportunities for community-based organizations to gather. Spaces are very limited, so be on the lookout for more information about the first meeting -- coming very soon!

The Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence is a national resource center on domestic violence, sexual violence, trafficking, and other forms of gender-based violence in Asian/Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. We envision a world free of gender-based violence for communities with equal opportunities for all to thrive.

Our mission is to disrupt gender-based violence which causes physical, sexual, emotional, spiritual and economic harm within the AAPI communities throughout the U.S. and its territories.
