COVID-19 Update!
|
|
As the number of Coronavirus cases continues to rise, we understand your concern about traveling to public spaces. At this time we are taking proactive steps to maintain a safe space and protect the health of our staff, clients, and visitors. Throughout the day, we have increased our efforts to disinfect surfaces between individual uses in addition to having our offices sanitized and disinfected each night.
Our office will remain open as we continue to handle your legal matters and we welcome you to contact us with any questions or concerns regarding your new or pending case. We have instituted telecommuting to reduce the number of staff in the office at the same time. Please note that our intake documents can be found online and we are happy to meet with you via telephone or video conference call.

- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily.

We know the importance of a good handshake but in an effort to keep our staff, clients, and visitors safe we will be minimizing hand to hand contact. No offense, it just makes sense!

- Know where to find local information on COVID-19 and local trends of COVID-19 cases.
- Know the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and what to do if organization members/staff become symptomatic.
- Identify safe ways to serve those who are at high risk or vulnerable (outreach, assistance, etc.).
- Review, update, or develop emergency plans for the organization, especially consideration for individuals at increased risk of severe illness.
- Encourage staff and members to stay home and notify organization administrators of illness when sick.
- Encourage personal protective measures among organization/members and staff (e.g., stay home when sick, hand-washing, respiratory etiquette).
- Clean frequently touched surfaces at organization gathering points daily.
- Ensure hand hygiene supplies are readily available in building.
- Implement social distancing measures:
» Reduce activities (e.g., group congregation, religious services), especially for organizations with individuals at increased risk of severe illness.
» Consider offering video/audio of events.
- Determine ways to continue providing support services to individuals at increased risk of severe disease (services, meals, checking in) while limiting group settings and exposures.
- Cancel large gatherings (e.g., >250 people, though threshold is at the discretion of the community) or move to smaller groupings.
- For organizations that serve high-risk populations, cancel gatherings of more than 10 people.

Due to recent developments with the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the 17th Annual Walter Rodney Symposium scheduled to take place on March 21, 2020 at the Martin
Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia is postponed. We are disappointed about the postponements; however, we are seizing this window of opportunity to promote social distancing and mitigation of community spread of the virus by rescheduling or canceling events that require travel and/or the gathering of large groups of people. Our event-location hosts have also closed buildings and their respective campuses as part of a coordinated response.
