Bullying Prevention Month: Resources for staff and families
October is Bullying Prevention Month , and throughout the coming weeks, Folsom Cordova will be sharing information and resources for staff and families regarding our efforts to curtail all types of bullying.

Bullying Prevention and Character Development website: This can be found here or at www.fcusd.org/bullying . At this site you'll find policies, procedures, initiatives, and resources for fostering a positive learning environment.

Resources for staff and families: As an additional reference for best practices in bullying prevention, linked here is the California Department of Education (CDE) Online Bullying Training Module and Bullying presentation This optional Training Module and Bullying presentation can assist all school staff, school administrators, parents, pupils, and community members in increasing their knowledge of the dynamics of bullying.  The Online Bullying Training Module presentation and Bullying Module identify acts of bullying and suggest strategies to address bullying.

Report bullying: Every school has an online bullying reporting form on its website, and submissions are sent directly to administrators at the school and District.

TEDStyle Talks: Learn2Learn at Cordova High School on Oct. 24

Folsom Cordova families, you're invited!  Join TEDStyle Talks during an exploration of lifelong learning. We are entering an era where technological augmentation and automation are changing the landscape of our lives. What does this mean for young people who are yet to decide what interests them most?

The tradition of learning to do something is becoming antiquated, as learning to be ready to shift, transfer, and adapt is expected - and yet, many aspects of our existing education systems and current approaches to learning and teaching promote compliance and completion, inhibiting innovative thinking and creative complex problem-solving.

Join us for this featured event: bringing your student, teacher, and leadership perspectives about why learning to learn is so important for now, and the future.

Limited seating available.

When: Oct. 24, 6-8 p.m. in the
Where: Cordova High Performing Arts Center, 2239 Chase Drive in Rancho Cordova

*This event is intended for both parents and students

Folsom Hills Elementary preserving beloved, historic redwood tree
Folsom Hills Elementary students recently got a unique and up-close learning opportunity! The school, in the midst of state-of-the-art, campuswide modernization, needed to remove a large redwood tree that was planted by Sandra J. Gallardo when she opened the school as its first principal back in August of 1991.

With the help of a local tree removal professional, the school preserved logs from this tree and then received a live milling demonstration.

The plan is to create three memorial benches, one of which one will honor Sandra J. Gallardo.

Cordova High Fall Theatre Production: Puffs
The Cordova High fall play production of Puffs is coming Oct. 10-13 at the Performing Arts Center.

For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.

This rendition tackles Hogwarts from the perspective of its least celebrated house, Hufflepuff, long considered the home of leftover students who weren't brave, smart, or ruthless enough to earn spots in the other school-sanctioned cliques.

The Sunday October 13 show is a special time (5 p.m.) and price ($15) and includes the show, plus a dessert buffet with the cast after. The buffet is catered by CHS culinary.

You can purchase tickets at: our.show/puffs

General Admission $10
Students/Seniors $8

Show times:
Thursday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 11, 7 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 12, 2 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 13, 5 p.m. - $15 tickets for this showing
