ISSUE 2 - MARCH 16th 2020
|
|
In light of the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) has released the following statement:
"
COVID-19 (coronavirus) has now been declared pandemic and NCYSA is implementing actions to care for the health and wellness of our players, coaches, families, administrators and referees. The following action has been taken:
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, March 12, 2020, the NCYSA Executive Board has SUSPENDED ALL NCYSA SANCTIONED EVENTS, THIS INCLUDES BUT NOT LIMITED TO GAMES, TRAINING (PRACTICES) TOURNAMENTS, PERMISSION TO TRAVEL. and ALL LEVELS OF PLAY (Classic, Challenge and Recreation) UNTIL APRIL 1, 2020.
"
In response to this directive, Carolina Velocity FC has announced an immediate suspension of all soccer activities until further notice.
"
In the end, our organization is about people, and creating a positive experience for all who play and attend our training sessions and matches.
This is just a suspension of play, our full intention over the next two weeks is to implement a plan to make sure that all our scheduled matches, programs and training sessions resume and get played in full after we feel comfortable returning to the fields. Our goal is to make up any missed time on the field for our players.
"

Director of Soccer

Carolina Velocity U11 White 2 - 1 Barcelona Charlotte U12
Carolina Velocity U11 White 5 - 3 Liberty Point
Carolina Champions League (CCL) - Charlotte, NC.
Our U11 White team have been in fantastic form recently and won another two CCL games recently in Charlotte, bringing their unbeaten run to 5 games. In both games, the players came out with pace and energy, and a real desire to get forward and score goals - taking the lead early on in both games and building on it. Coach Robbie was also impressed with the excellent defending on display, praising his side's ability to dominate possession by winning the ball back early.

CVFC HOLLY SPRINGS ACADEMY
|
|
Carolina Velocity FC has announced the establishment of its Holly Springs Academy located at CEDA Fields at 6112 Rex Road, Holly Springs, NC. CEDA Owner and Founder, Amobi Agu, will serve as Technical Advisor to the Holly Springs Academy.
Designed to bring the best youth soccer experience to Southwest Wake County, Carolina Velocity’s Holly Springs Academy will provide both recreational soccer and youth academy programming for young players. The recreational program (U5-U10) will focus on grassroots instruction and gameplay, while the Youth Academy (U8-U12) will combine technical soccer instruction and game play, with an emphasis on player development over team development. Although all players can apply to be an Academy player, assessments are held to determine which players are ready for the advanced training that the Academy will provide.
Amobi writes: "
We are pleased to work with Carolina Velocity to help grow soccer in Southern Wake County. We have more than fifteen years of experience developing technically proficient soccer players in Wake County and I look forward to a long and successful collaboration with Carolina Velocity.

INDIVIDUAL SKILLS PRACTICE
|
|
Unfortunately soccer practice has been suspended for a while. But that doesn't mean you can't still practice at home! All you need is a soccer ball. Just be careful not to break anything around the house! Here are Coach Scotty's five top tips for sharpening your skills individually:
1) Juggles
- Try to keep the ball in the air as long as you can. A good target score is your age. Practice using all parts of your body and you can even try to add in some tricks!
2) Wall passes
- Pass the ball off a wall and control it, using both feet. Work on your passing accuracy and your first touch. Increase the difficulty by passing the ball in the air and focus on taking your first touch in different directions with different body parts.
3) Footskills
- Develop your ball control by practising your footskills. Scissors, step-overs, pull-backs, tik-toks and toe-taps are just some of the skills you can work on. Master the moves you already know or invent new ones. Try to combine moves together for extra difficulty, then try to do moves on the run. You can put obstacles in your way and pretend they're defenders!
4) Target Practice
- If you're lucky enough to have a goal to use, practice your finishing skills. Aim for the same spot and only move on when you can hit it ten times in a row. If you don't have a goal, try to find another target you can hit like a wall or a tree. Try to
5) Speed Dribbling
- Mark out a course in the yard and see how fast you can dribble round. Try to beat previous times. Add in extra obstacles for difficulty, use both feet and you can add in some of the footskills you have been practicing!
