Happenings in and around the Chamber!

Happy Monday!
As the calendar flips to August, we cannot help but reflect on where we’ve been in 2020 and wonder where we will go through the remainder of the year. We do know that many of us witnessed one of, if not the most, trying times of our lives. Our new ‘normal’ may not feel normal at all, but we are encouraged as we watch our businesses pivot and march forward. With new businesses opening – yes, there are new businesses – it is especially exciting to witness the vision and fortitude of our business community. We applaud each of you!
Last week, we welcomed Dance Dynamics to Batavia with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 30. Actually, they are celebrating their first year of their Batavia location, but we were unable to hold their ceremony when scheduled last spring. Dance Dynamics is a dance studio on Randall Road that offers all styles and ages of dance instruction. We awarded them with an Ole Award last January for their beautiful renovation. A photo is below.
Batavia Counselors Collaboration
When COVID-19 hit and stay-at-home orders were issued
,
several local counseling center owners got together, with help of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, to assess the need and resources to help our community during this pandemic. The counselors, with our help and that of BATV, started meeting regularly. Together they formed the
Batavia Counselors’ Collaboration
. It was discovered that no one organization had a substantial list of area resources, especially where to find mental health services.
Through a lot of work from all parties involved, an expansive
Kane County Area Resource Guide
was developed. Today is launch day for the group and the guide. You can access the guide via this
Google Docs link
. See more information about the Batavia Counselors' Collaboration below.
Many of you have been viewing Mayor Schielke’s weekly videos. You can access the final July video – that of July 31 - by clicking this
link
. If you are following along with each week's video, you'll see that once again the Mayor does not disappoint as to a Batavia history lesson. This week, you'll see multiple shots of Wilson Street and one of the moving of the Depot. See which buildings you recognize!
Please scroll down for many new events and other content, including this week's “Did You Know” segment. If you have news to share, remember to send it to us! We continually update our home page,
bataviachamber.org
when new resources and information comes out. Also, check our
calendar
for new events from us and the community.
Our local businesses need your support – please remember to shop and dine local! As always, we are now, and will be in the future, here for you.
Most sincerely,
Margaret, Patti and Shirley

Your Chamber Works For You!
|
In this week’s Did You Know segment, we explore
Batavia Reconnected
, an initiative founded as the community emerged from shelter in place. Again, our connections and communication are key ingredients in the success of this initiative.
Did you know that:
- The Batavia Chamber worked with the City of Batavia and Batavia MainStreet to form Batavia Reconnected, an initiative to support the health and well-being of our residents and our business community. As restaurants and retail opened, this group printed and distributed safety guidelines to promote safe shopping and dining.
- A pledge was created and offered to the businesses to sign and post in their establishments. You can read this pledge on our website.
- Batavia Reconnected also created the COVID-19 Response Fund that has provided grants of $1,500 to select businesses that were severely impacted by the shutdown. The funds were used to pay for improvements and safety precautions due to the pandemic, easing their financial burden. At least 25 small businesses benefited from these grants. The Batavia Chamber played an integral part in letting qualified businesses know that the funds were available and then helped them with the necessary paperwork.
Watch for more examples of our community support next week.
