Your Small Business is The Heartbeat of Our Economy

From the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry
High Speed Internet Fast Tracked

As COVID-19 began shuttering businesses and government offices in March, the FCC led an effort with telecommunications companies to Keep Americans Connected.

By April, the number of telecommuting Americans had risen from 31% to 62% (Gallup report). The United States was fortunate to maintain bandwidth unlike other nations, but the U.S. Chamber says more is needed.

Since 2016, the broadband gap across the nation has closed from 34 million to 18 million Americans unconnected to high-speed internet service.

One major roadblock is accurate mapping to determine service levels across the nation. The Broadband DATA Act signed earlier in 2020 is designed to bolster mapping, but the $65 million price tag remains unfunded.

One State, One Challenge, One Great Opportunity
From the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry
By Bryan Slone, President, NE Chamber
As Nebraska plans for our post-COVID recovery, it’s urgent that we unite behind a pro-growth vision and seize a unique generational opportunity to leverage the quality-of-life advantages of our state. The pandemic has fundamentally changed the dynamics of how people view where they live and work. In these challenging times, there is no better place to come together and come home to than our Nebraska communities, from Omaha to Scottsbluff.

Our pro-growth agenda must transcend politics and geographies. Whether urban or rural, conservative or progressive, public or private, we all share a common interest at this critical point. Indeed, whether we focus on maintaining leadership in healthcare, education, our key industries, technology, or infrastructure, our efforts are likely interlinked. All require the kind of economic and population growth necessary to create the economic base and environment to accomplish these goals. READ MORE
Blue Print Nebraska
Nebraska has a pro-growth plan in the Blueprint Nebraska report (blueprint-nebraska.org), its 15 growth initiatives and its related benchmarks for measuring success. This report reflects the input of literally thousands of people statewide and transcends politics and geography.
Ag Takes Hit During Outbreak
Net agricultural income is expected to decline 23% in Nebraska in 2020, according to a study published by the Platte Institute and Nebraska Farm Bureau. Half of the income earned may be thanks to federal government assistance.

Gasoline consumption was down 36% at one point, and meat processing facilities were operating at 60-70% capacity. Total losses were predicted at $3.7 billion (without federal assistance.)
